The previous owner's name is written in pencil on the front paste-down. There is a pin prick sized perforation that goes through the first 40 pages near the top, and the bottom corner of the last page of the introduction has been clipped. Despite the stated flaws, the binding is still solid and overall the book is in presentable condition. ; The book is translated from Russian by Gregory Zilboorg, who also wrote a five page introduction. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; ix, 214 pp pages; Vladimir Korolenko (1853 - 1921) was a Ukrainian born Russian author and journalist. "An avid anti-Tzarist, he also protested against the atrocities committed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil WarBez iazyka" [Speechless] was originally published in Russia in 1895 and translated into English and published in the United States in 1925 as "In A Strange Land." The protagonist, Matvai Dyshio, his sister and a frienc travel to the United States in search of his sister's husband, Ossip Lozinsky. Based on his trip to the Chicago World's Fair, Korolenko portrays an unflattering view of America and of Americans. Illustrated by No Illustrations (illustratore).
