Dust jacket is near fine and minimal shelf wear. Arriving in Australia at he age of Nineteen, Alex Phillipps worked briefly on several farming properties before taking up virgin clock in the Kojonup District. For years he alternated between working as a surveyor in the far north during the dry season and returning during lay-up to work on and invest his earnings in the property. The accounts of the various surveying excursion are unique and are accompanied by a most interesting collection of photographs. The second half of the book, when the farm had become the priority, tells a tale of courage and determination which clearly stamps the Phillipps Family as latter day pioneers. What makes the tale extraordinary is contained in the one simple sentence on the final page, repeated on the flyleaf of the book. Boo weight is 0.406kg.

Here's a comprehensive overview of his life and legacy: Military Career Highlights: Early Life & Education: Born in Perth, Western Australia, Hancock was educated at Hale School and later entered the Royal Military College, Duntroon, in 1925. He graduated in 1928 with the Sword of Honour. RAAF Service: Transferred to the RAAF in 1929 and qualified as a pilot in 1930. Despite initially lacking interest in aviation, he became an enthusiastic flyer. World War II: Held key planning and administrative roles early in the war, later commanded No. 100 Squadron and No. 71 Wing during the Aitape Wewak campaign, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. Post-War Roles: Inaugural commandant of RAAF College. Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (1951 1953). Air Member for Personnel (1953 1955). Air Officer Commanding No. 224 Group RAF in Malaya (1957 1959). Chief of the Air Staff (1961 1965), promoted to Air Marshal and knighted in 1962. Strategic Contributions: Oversaw redevelopment of RAAF Base Learmonth in WA as part of a forward defence strategy. Evaluated aircraft replacements, notably the American TFX (later F-111), though he advised caution due to its developmental stage. Author & Legacy: Hancock authored Challenge, a monograph published in 1990, reflecting on his career and military philosophy. After retiring, he co-founded the Australia Defence Association. He is commemorated by Sir Valston Hancock Drive in Evans Head, NSW, and the Sir Valston Hancock House in South Perth, a veteran support initiative launched in 2024. After a childhood in Portnockie, Banffshire, Sarah was sixteen when she left the strict religious atmosphere of her home to go nursing. "A toothy smile came readily to her round face and her blue green eye were wide and friendly" Initially startled by the revelations of life, first at the Country Hospital for Infection Diseases at Peterhead and later where she trained, she seems to have preserved through-out life the basic innocence conveyed by this description. Childhood memories, nursing cases histories and finally life in Western Australia as a latter-day immigrant all add up to a thoroughly enjoyable book. Weight of book is 0.211kg.

Hardcover. Condizione: VG+. Condizione sovraccoperta: VG+. Reprint/First. Virtually every aspect of life, development, transport,l, the pioneers, the aboriginal community and of contemporary residents in this vast, hot and dry area is covered by these contributions, These books provides an excellent example of history that is not not the work of academic historians, but by a commuinty co-operative movement and told in the style and values of those who live North of the 26th. The colour art dust jacket for Vol One is by Hal Messingham and show the lighthouse at Capr Leveque, the Vol Two colour art jacket is by Elizabeth Durack-Clancy and shows horsemen on a cattle drive. This artist also provided the colour art e/papers for Vol Two which show a station family awaiting the arrival of a plane. Weight of both books is 2.2kg unpacked: additional postage would probably be required for overseas delivery. Photos, Art etc, (illustratore).
