Windich was born near Mount Stirling, central Wheatbelt, in the 1840s. Windich belonged to the Kokar People and was brought up near Bunbury. Windich is famous for his contribution to the expeditions led by John and Alexander Forrest. John Forrest took Windich with him on three expeditions: the north-eastern districts of Western Australia, the Great Australian Bight and Champion Bay. Alexander took Windich with him when he led an expedition to the Hampton Plains in 1871. Windich died of pneumonia while working with a construction party on the overland telegraph at Esperance Bay in February 1876. (Australian Dictionary of Biography).…

George Julius Brockman (1850-1912) was an explorer and pastoralist in the Gascoyne and Kimberley regions of Western Australia. For thirty or more years until his death, Julius Brockman recorded in his diary almost daily. Brockman spent his early adult years working in Busselton as a cattle hunter and foreman for H R Princep. By 1875, he had moved north to the Gascoyne, managing pastoral stations, including Pyramid Station. Brockman was the first European settler to bring stock to the west Kimberley to secure land on the Fitzroy River. He was blocked by new government land acquisition regulations from buying land on the south side of the river, and so he moved north to establish the Meda station on the May River. In 1888, Brockman sold Meda to return to the Gascoyne and purchased the Minilya station. (J S Battye Library of West Australian History). …
