Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Poor. No Jacket. Frontispiece (portrait), xvi, Pp. 5-604, as is called for. Bookseller's label to back paste-down (The Burrows Brothers Company, Cleveland, OH). A single page typescript containing chapter like headings, along with page numbers, has been laid in. Additionally, a newspaper article that is close to contemporary with the publishing of this book has been tipped in on front printer's blank. The article contains a marriage notice for Maria Monk's daughter, as well as a brief historical note. The front paste-down admits to some damage and the front free endpaper is missing. This volume is bound in original green cloth, with fairly bright but admittedly rubbed gilt lettering and decorations to spine. Exterior admits to heavy wear. Hinges cracked and binding a bit shaken, though largely intact. An early gathering of pages, including the frontispiece and title-page, is completely detached from the volume. Another leaf - from the table of contents - is also completely detached and admits to heavy, albeit unobtrusive tears and chips to extremities. Minor, unobtrusive spots to a small number of leaves, as well as minor pencil to same, and browning to paper, with several short tears and small chips to extremities of a small number of leaves. In the normal course of events, this would be considered a "reading" copy, but with the additional item tipped in and the older typescript, this is a unique copy of this title, now scarce on the open market. …

Aggiungi al carrelloUnbound. Condizione: Fine. Handbill or small broadside. First separate edition. Measuring 3½" x 5". Printed in black on glossy white paper. Neat contemporary pencil owner name in upper margin ("Martha Martin"), lightly rubbed at extremities, else a near fine copy. Mary S.B. Dana Schindler (1810-1883) was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, and moved to Charleston at a young age. She was a prolific author of poetry, prose, fiction, and children's literature (including *The Young Sailor*, *Southern Harp*, *Northern Harp, Parted Family*, and perhaps her best-known work, *Letters to Relatives and Friends*). In 1835 she married Charles E. Dana, and spent time in New York City and Bloomington, Iowa; following the death of her husband and child, she returned to Charleston. In 1848 she married Rev. Robert D. Schindler, and lived in Nacogdoches, Texas. The recto prints *Of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven,* in 16 lines, beginning, "I dearly love a little child, And Jesus loved young children too, He ever sweetly on them smiled, And placed them with his chosen few [the "u" in young, in the second line, is inverted, spelling "yonng"]. The verso prints The Ten Commandments, in 31 lines. *Of Such is the Kingdom of Heaven* is also published in Mrs. Dana's 1841 collection, *The Southern Harp*, and it was included in a few later poetry anthologies. Unrecorded by *OCLC*, which does note a few holdings of similar, broadside and song sheet titles by this author.…
