A previous owner has embossed their name onto contents page. Otherwise it is a good clean copy, the binding is tight with no sign of damage. No obvious sign of fading to the spine, it is a bit grubby though. When the invasion force was on the high seas heading for the Gulf of Salerno, it was declared that Italy had surrendered. This lightened the burden for the assault troops, a misguided feeling of relief as the German's took over the defence, not willing to concede any part of the Nazi Empire to the Allies without a fight. THE LONG-AWAITED NEW NOVEL. SYNOPSIS: CUCKOO WAS COMING. No one knew what it was--but everyone knew it was trouble. Designated Object Lambda when it first appeared on the fringes of the galaxy, 20,000 light-years away, it was traveling at one sixth the speed of light. Then the space probe began to leak radiation. - and - Tachyon transmission was a marvelous invention. A man could send infinite replicates of himself anywhere in the galaxy--wherever duty called. If one of the copies got killed, so what? The original would still be alive and well back on his home planet, and he could always send replacements! Such a man was Ben Pertin, who lived on Earth. And then there was: Ben Charles Pertin--stationed on Sun One, central headquarters of the intelligent races in the galaxy. Ben James Pertin--sent to the probe ship Aurora after Ben Frank Pertin was reported missing on board. Ben Linc Pertin--dispatched to the artificial satellite orbiting Cuckoo. Ben Yale Pertin--one of several Pertins sent to explore the surface of Cuckoo. Some returned--many did not! And most of them were in love with same woman! Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

SYNOPSIS: He masterminded the international intelligence network that halted the Nazi juggernaut. Sir William Stephenson, the man called Intrepid, and his astonishing activities are the subject of this book. Because he sought anonymity, held no military rank and wore no uniform after 1918, he never publicly displayed the decorations and medals awarded to him. He holds the (British) Military Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, 1914-1915 Star, General Service Medal, World War I Victory Medal; (French) Commander of the Legion of Honor, (Belgian) Croix de Guerre with Palms; (U.S.) Presidential Medal for Merit (Sir William was the first non-American to receive this decoration); (British) The Badge of Knighthood. William Stevenson, no relative of Sir William despite the similarity of their names, is a Canadian, although born in England. He is a distinguished journalist, having been a foreign correspondent and bureau chief for British and Canadian newspapers. More recently he has been a television writer and producer and is, as well, the author of seven previously published books. His most recent journalistic achievement was 90 Minutes at Entebbe, the dynamic account of Israel's stunning rescue mission. He was a naval flyer during World War II and met Sir William on special assignment to intelligence. They have remained fast friends ever since, and Sir William entrusted his unique and invaluable files to William Stevenson with complete authority and discretion to write this selective narrative. THE ENORMOUS ALIEN CONVOY WAS A WORLD UNTO ITSELF--WHAT COULD IT POSSIBLY WANT FROM A LIFELESS PLANET? A spellbinding first-contact novel by Donald Moffitt. SYNOPSIS: RUNAWAY WORLD. Within hours after the Lunar observatory picked up a strange new X-ray source in Cygnus, the disastrous picture was clear. An immense object was hurtling toward the Solar System at nearly the speed of light.and its intense radiation would surely wipe Earth free of all life within six months. There was nothing anyone could do. Then, incredibly, the rogue that had appeared out of nowhere suddenly changed its trajectory and stopped in the area of Jupiter. And that was flatly impossible! With the world-juggling sweep of Larry Niven and the scientific precision of Arthur C. Clarke, The Jupiter Theft marks the impressive debut of an extraordinary science-fiction talent! They were little green men, but with a difference.and what a difference! ALSO KNOWN AS: A short version of this story was published in Astounding Science-Fiction, September, 1954. SYNOPSIS: THEY WERE GREEN. THEY WERE LITTLE. THEY WERE BALD AS BILLIARD BALLS AND THEY WERE EVERYWHERE. Luke Devereaux was a science-fiction writer, holed up in a desert shack waiting for inspiration. He was the first man to see a Martian.but he wasn't the last! It was estimated that a billion of them had arrived - one to every three human beings on Earth - obnoxious green creatures who could be seen and heard, but not harmed, and who probed private sex lives as shamelessly as they probed government secrets. No one knew why they had come. No one knew how to make them go away - except, perhaps, Luke Devereaux. Unfortunately, Devereaux was going slightly bananas, so it wouldn't be easy. But for a science-fiction writer nothing was impossible. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
