Usual uniform browning, slight use to cover but a good-plus second-hand copy. "This is the story of a game bird, a hybrid pheasant, in the period of change that came upon the countryside, and these facts are set down as part of the background of the bird's life: for all background in England at that time was man-made, or man mis-made." The story is set in "a small coastal farm in England's premier game-shooting county, Norfolk. The chronicle opens in the winter of 1937, in the period of deriliction that had fallen on British farming." A good read, as always with Henry Williamson, and something of an English social document. .
