"I sometimes wonder how on… earth I ever survived the rough and tumble way I started my shooting career. It was obvious I did everything wrong from the start. The start began at the age of eight. .I used to spend all my time away from school working, or thinking I was, harrowing with the horse or trying to plough. .[A double-barrelled muzzle loader was produced] from a pile of junk in the shed next to the cow shed. .We took it to pieces and washed the barrels out with boiling water.
