The struggles at college and then finally ordination in Coventry Cathedral led to the life of a parish priest in Coventry, Shottery, Newton Aycliffe and finally Alcester. David describes his life with Hilary and their three sons with amusing stories of parish life interspersed with illustrations of formidable ecclesiastical personalities and ordinary parishioners, and not forgetting that part of pastoral life centred on baptisms, weddings and funerals. He then slips back into his clericals to describe the last few weeks of his full-time ministry as a Priest in the Church of England. This gives him the opportunity to comment on certain aspects of the Established Church and in some cases to make some fairly trenchant remarks. Finally he returns to his beloved trains with some dreams of possibilities in his retirement.
