"Cleanness" is translated by fellow scholar and publisher of the works, D. S. Brewer, and runs alongside the main poem.Penned anonymously in middle English, these texts are dated around the mid to late 14th century. Little is known about the authorship of "Wynnere and Wastoure", a political debate poem thought to have inspired William Langland's "Pier's Plowman".
