Aggiungi al carrelloSoftcover. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition; First Printing. This is a fascinating little book. Published by Whitewals, a non-profit member of the Illinois Arts Alliance, it is a compilation of inventions devised by prisoners, I suppose in the IL prison system , to improve the quality of life in a cell. The author's name is Angelo - he also supplied the drawings. He mentions other inmates, so I don't know if all these are his inventions. The editors specifically note that there is no drug paraphernalia or weapons. Obviously, had he made these , Angelo would not have included them in the book. Some of the inventions maybe very dangerous, such as those involving electricity . The pictures include a property locker organizer, a clothesline and a dice table. A very interesting book - I can see a college student getting some use out of this! ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 119 pages.…

Paperback. Condizione: New. Edgar Arceneaux: The Alchemy of Comedy . . . Stupid documents a multi-channel installation by contemporary video artist Edgar Arceneaux. Centered on video footage of popular comedian David Alan Grier, the artwork examines the nuances and structures of comedy routines, jokes, and humor itself. Arceneaux shot footage of Grier over the course of a week performing at three sites in Chicago; the resulting artwork calls into question the relationship between performer and audience, comedy and comedian, and laughter and pathos. Alongside stills from the video, the book presents facsimile reproductions of pages from a notebook kept by Arceneaux during the production of the work, as well as transcripts of some of Grier's routines; together, the materials offer a revealing look into the formative processes of both comedy and art. …

Paperback. Condizione: New. Sun Ra (1914?93)?self-proclaimed visionary extraterrestrial of the ?Angel Race,â prophetic jazz band leader and composer, and lyrical proponent of Afro-futurism?was one of the most influential figures of twentieth-century music. Though many of his fans are familiar with the philosophical and spiritual dimensions of Sun Raâs work, most remain blissfully unaware of how artists have continued to explore time and (outer) space through the invention and composition of his legacy. The remarkable illustrations and essays of Traveling the Spaceways confront the visual manifestation of Sun Raâs philosophy and demonstrate how graphics and design were essential to his message of self-determination. The influence of Sun Raâs openness to new technologies and experimentation, his sense of personal identity as a construct rather than a given, and his playful attitude towards history and mythmaking are all evidenced by the remarkable writers and artists who have contributed to this volume, including Pedro Bell, My Barbarian, Dave Muller, and Charlemagne Palestine. A refreshing reconsideration of the impact of Sun Raâs life on American history and visual culture, Traveling the Spaceways is an unforgettable look at the Ra persona in the context of contemporary art.…
