Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 260 pages. Soft covers. UK and Commonwealth FALs" (Volume Two of the FAL Rifle Series) by R. Blake Stevens is the definitive historical and technical reference covering the evolution of the Fabrique Nationale (FN) FAL as adopted by Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations. The work meticulously documents the progression of the rifle in these regions through the following key areas: Explores the rifle's wartime infancy in England, detailing Great Britain's initial development of the bullpup EM-2 and its testing against early FN-designed FAL prototypes. It covers the pressure from the United States to abandon the intermediate .280 cartridge in favor of the T65 round, which ultimately led to the standardization of the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. Details Canada's pioneering involvement with the platform, as they were the first Commonwealth nation to adopt and produce the FAL (known as the C1 and the C2 heavy-barrel squad automatic weapon). Chronicles the long, arduous journey to standardize the L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle for the British Armed Forces, including the inch-to-metric dimension changes and manufacturing nuances. Discusses the Australian adoption and the heavy barrel variant (L2A1), along with the operational challenges and field performance of the Commonwealth FALs. Features original source documentation, line drawings, parts breakdowns, and black-and-white photographs of the guns in service. The book often serves as a key resource for military historians and firearm collectors. Scarce. A Near Fine to Fine copy with only very light use at a reasonable price.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. 1st Edition. 272 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Almost 400 illustrations, over 250 in color. The most complete study of the Colt New Service Revolver ever published. A well-researched, entertaining and profusely illustrated guide to every aspect of this handgun. The Colt New Service was manufactured from 1898 through 1943 in a number of commercial and military models, with both standard and Target versions offered in on the civilian models. A total of over 356,000 were produced. There were eleven standard chamberings, and experimental models were made in .22 rimfire, .22 Hornet, and .41 Special. These handguns were also available in fancy engraved versions. There are 165 distinct models/versions depicted in this volume including some that are quite rare. In addition to a brief historical introduction and individual chapters on all of the models, including the top-of-the-line Shooting Master and the radically bobbed "Fitz Specials", plus Famous Users and Aftermarket Modifications, the author presents expert commentaries and reasoned analyses throughout on the value and usefulness of the New Service in the field and as a personal defense weapon, plus frank critiques and comparisons with contemporary Smith & Wesson products. An excellent reference book. Both the Book and the Dust Jacket are in Very Fine As New condition. A really beautiful copy of a book that is getting harder to find at a reasonable price.

Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. 1st Edition. 360 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Over 450 illustrations, mostly in color. This is the third volume in the ongoing Collector Grade series on Smith & Wesson revolvers written by self-defense expert Timothy J. Mullin. The page and figure numbers run sequentially throughout all three volumes. Topics discussed include the following: *Some further thoughts on Volumes I and II, and a 5-page reference Chronology of N-Frame serial numbers, model introductions and related events; *A brief history of S&W "World Class" revolvers, describing and illustrating the three "indisputably effective" S&W .44 caliber cartridges (American, Russian and Special) and their boxes; *The little-known S&W ".45 Special", firing the rimmed version of the experimental Frankford Arsenal "Model 1906" cartridge, which featured in military trials in 1906 and 1907, and excerpts from the Pitman Notes illustrating the dimensions of these rare cartridges and their packaging; *The twelve pre-production "Zero Series" .44 Special "Club Guns" of 1906; *The commercial First Model .44 Hand Ejector (the "New Century" or "Triple Lock"), introduced in 1908 and discontinued in 1915 with some late production, long considered by many to be "the finest double-action revolver in existence", and some interesting Spanish copies of the Triple Lock; *The Second Model Hand Ejector, without the third (crane) locking feature or ejector rod shroud, most of which were procured for military use during WWI as the ".455 Government Model" or the .45 ACP U.S. Model 1917, and some of their rare accessories and ancillaries; *The Third Model (the Wolf & Klar "Model 1926"), which reinstated the ejector rod shroud and formed the basis for most of the N-Frame models still in production today; *The .38/44 "Heavy Duty" and "Outdoorsman" and the Registered .357 Magnum of the 1930s; *The Model 1917 use during and after WWII, and some wartime experimental N-Frames in 9mm and .30 carbine calibers; *The post-WWII commercial long-action "Transitionals" with micro sights; *The first short-action N-Frames, and experiments with alloy frames and the .22 Hornet caliber; *Model names replaced by numbers (1957); *The QSPR "Tunnel Gun" and its special noiseless, flashless .500 caliber cartridge in Vietnam; *The Model 29 (.44 Magnum), and factory modifications to increase endurance with heavy loads; *The .41 Magnum program, and a gallery of fine guns from the Elmer Keith Estate auction; *Modern N-Frames in stainless steel and with aluminum and scandium alloy frames, illustrating the components which are now produced by the MIM (metal injection molding) process; *The mammoth X-Frame, in .500 and .460 S&W Magnum calibers, including the development history of the .500 Magnum "John Ross Special"; *A Bibliography, and a comprehensive Index of all three volumes. An absolutely outstanding publication. NOW OUT OF PRINT. A Very Fine As New copy at a reasonable price.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. 59 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. The stock market crash of "Black Monday" in October, 1929 heralded the beginning of the worst depression in American history. At the same time, the sport of one-handed target shooting was very popular. In January 1932, amidst the darkest days of depression and general economic decline, the Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company introduced their hand-fitted, premium-grade National Match Government Model pistol. These fine arms were eminently suitable for match shooting, but they carried a sticker price of $40 in the days when a brand-new commercial Government Model retailed for about $22. Not surprisingly, the prewar National Match model was originally produced in small numbers, and was in fact only briefly produced. Surprisingly, the prewar National Match .45 Government model may be rarer, in terms of the numbers porduced, than the ultra-rare Colt .44 Walker of which only 1,000 military and 100 civilian examples were ever made. Nevertheless, no finer semi-automatic handgun than the prewar Colt National Match ever left the factory, and anyone who owns one of these Amerian Beauties holds a national treasure in his hand. The prior owner's name and date are neatly penned on the inside front board, otherwise this is a beautiful Fine As New copy of a Very Scarce title at a reasonable price.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. 350 pages. War Baby! Comes Home continues the amazing saga of the U.S. .30 Caliber Carbine - the most popular military shoulder arm in American History. Accourding to the Director of Military Training eighty-five percent of the troops in the U.S. tactical and operational units were armed with M1 carbines by early 1945. The U.S. Army jealously guarded its 'critical' supply of carbines during the war but with peace distributed this universally popular arm lavishly among allies and erstwhile enemies alike. With the termination of the carbine manufacturing program in 1945, the ongoing task of maintaining and refurbishing the nation's carbines and the manufacture of new spare parts and further experimental developments devolved upon Springfield Armory. The popularity of the carbine is further attested to by the large number of official military accessories and ancilliaries which were produced and fielded in its support, as well as the nmerous types of .30 caliber cartridges developed for the carbine. In the 1950s, International Aid distribution of U.S. military carbines abroad and the consequent availability of large stocks of .30 caliber carbine ammunition spawned the development of several interesting foreign weapons, some direct 'clones' of the U.S. carbine itself, but others of completely different designs which had in common only the .30 caliber carbine cartridge. An outstanding reference. Long out of print, and getting Scarce. Both the Book and the Dust Jacket are in Fine condition. The Dust Jacket has a "Broadart" style protective cover. Almost 400 illustrations. a yearlong contest amongst America's military and civilian gun designers led to the adoption of a last-minute Winchester entry as "US Carbine, Caliber .30 M1" in October, 1941. From the first trickle of "Inlands" in June, 1942 through to a combined production peak of over 500,000 units per month in December, 1943, over six million carbines were manufactured, by a total of ten prime contractors, until program termination in 1945. War Baby! is an in-depth account of the carbine's production history, component variations, production methods, subcontractors, and markings. Perhaps most importantly, the INTEGRATION of components among the prime contractors, a process often resorted to during wartime to keep production moving, is addressed in detail; so don't trade off that "incorrect" carbine until you read what Larry Ruth has to say in this book! Hardcover. Condizione: As New. Condizione sovraccoperta: As New. 1st Edition. 511 pages. Almost 600 illustrations, many in color. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Huge volume. This is a well-informed discourse by a professional self-defense expert covering all aspects of the famous k-frame revolver, the tried-and-true cornerstone product of the prestigious armsmaking firm Smith & Wesson, Inc. of Springfield, Massachusetts. From its antecedent .32 caliber Hand Ejector model, introduced in 1896, through well over a century of production, the S&W K-Frame, revolver has long been the most perennially popular sidearm in the company's catalog, with production totals in excess of all other S&W models combined. K-Frame S&Ws have proven to be exceptionally versatile throughout this unprecedentedly long period. Fixed-sight M&P versions have provided much peace of mind to those who carried them as duty guns or who kept one handy for home protection, while the adjustably-sighted target models have performed with great reliability and precision in matches fired by a vast number of target shooters> both types have proven themselves over time to be dependable companions in wild and dangerous places. It is most interesting to consider, as we do in this book, how safety features on Smith & Wesson revolvers have been a recurring theme over the years. Obviously right from the beginning everyone connected withe newly-developed Hand Ejectors was familiar with the danger of a weapon firing when dropped if a cartride was under the firing pin. We have documented the repeated efforts by Smith & Wesson to ensure that their revolvers were free from this hazard, with the most recent modification being added in 1944 in responnse to the incident of a sailor who was fatally shot by his dropped Victory Model during WWII. A sequesl to Volume I, Magnum - The S&W Phenominon. The page and figure numbering in this book continnues on from wher Volume I left off, and a comprehensive Index to both volumes appears in the back of this book. An outstanding reference. Excellent. Out of print and scarce. A Very Fine As New copy at a reasonable price.
