An investigation on its production, trafficking, consumption, addicts and victims.Sold for less than half a dollar per dose, Paco has been called "the poor man's cocaine" and has ravaged the poorest slums of Bueno…s Aires. Smoked like crack, it has an extremely short effect and can lead to addiction in just as short a time, turning out to be much more addictive than heroin or crack itself. The effect lasts for only five to ten minutes, and it takes only about thirty seconds to act.Also known as PBC (pasta basica de cocaina, "cocaine base paste"), Paco is the waste product of cocaine preparation and is mixed with hypertoxical chemical substances varying from kerosene, glue, glass powder and even rat poison. For nearly fifty years Letizia Battaglia has photographed, observed and lived intensely her time and especially her city, Palermo. Letizia Battaglia is a tribute to her work, her intense and new gaze, her yearning for freedom and her always being a woman against the tide. It is an uninterrupted album that goes from Milan to the face of Pier Paolo Pasolini, from the many mafia deaths to the unconscious elegance of the little girls of the Cala district in Palermo; and then the religious processions, the faces of Piersanti Mattarella, Giovanni Falcone up to the ferocious boss Leoluca Bagarella. For almost fifty years, Letizia Battaglia has photographed, observed and experienced her time and above all her city, Palermo. F…unded by the Marshall Plan, the program placed land in the possession of impoverished families, but did so without the infrastructure necessary to make the small holdings sustainable. This failure brought about a mass migration into the developing industrial North, leaving dozens upon dozens of post-war, often cast-concrete structures abandoned in the now machine cultivated fields.In 2017, photographer Steven Seidenberg began exploring the landscapes, material culture, and remaining structures of this failed program in the vast agricultural areas of Basilicata and Puglia.
