The following hypotheses were tested to achieve the objectives of the study: 1. Characteristics of livestock farming and reasons for keeping livestock differ between beef buffalo and beef cattle farms and between herd sizes. 2. Differences between beef buffalo and beef cattle farms and between herd sizes have an effect on socio-economics and livelihoods of the farmers. 3. There are differences in farm management, feeding management and breeding practices between beef buffalo and beef cattle farms and between herd sizes. 4. Beef buffalo farms have a lower level of farm inputs and a higher potential for improving the production. 5. Formal banks are the main players in credit market. Despite 44 branches of agricultural banks distributed countrywide, these bra…nches offer a limited number of credit for different purposes every year. The shares of these branches in rural credit market are quite small: agricultural banks provide only 24 % of loans and the other banks, mainly the commercial banks, provide 76 % of loans. However, agricultural credits provided by agricultural banks offer the most favorable terms for those households that have a positive demand on agricultural credit. Households that have no access to agricultural credits on the other hand face the problem of paying a higher interest rate when applying for credit from non-agricultural banks. This study is an investigation on ¿the importance of large credits in Libyan rural-areas, and the main players in the rural-credit market¿. This study determines factors affecting access and credit applications in three different locations. In addition, the affect of households, land, and socio-economic characteristics are analyzed using econometric analysis based on primary data collected during field research in the years 2006 and 2007. Empirical results from the data collected from three different regions in Libya confirm that more than half of rural households have no access to credit and around 42% of rural households do not want to participate in loan borrowing or take loans from any financial institutions that charge high interest rate. This is mostly due to religious considerations that prohibit ¿unethical¿ interest rates charged by banks. 160 pp. Englisch.

The overall objective of the research is to contribute to the existing literature on the efficiency and productivi…ty of Nigerian agriculture. The first essay examined the development and drivers of the average technical efficiency in Nigerian agriculture based on 64 efficiency studies covering 1999-2008. The second essay went on to further identify the trends in crop diversification while examining its impact on the technical efficiency of smallholder farms in Nigeria. Last but not least, the third essay investigated technical efficiency, inputs substitution and their complementary effects using an output distance function while focusing on cassava production in Nigeria. The second and third essays are based on unbalanced panel data of 846 observations covering three farming season (2006/07-2008/09) from southwestern Nigeria via the application of the stochastic frontier analysis. In summary, the research found that average technical efficiency significantly increased over time across the 64 frontier studies in the country. Besides, the study observed that technical progress characterized food crop production in the country while the mean technical efficiency reported from each of the essays that make up the dissertation showed that there is still room for improvement in Nigerian food crop production as each estimate falls below the frontier level. Furthermore, the research revealed that cropping pattern increased significantly with the intensification of diversification in food crop production in the country. In addition, the study identifies education, credit, extension contacts and crop diversification among others as key drivers of technical efficiency in Nigerian food crop production. In light of this, the research concludes that the latter observation underscores the importance of education, credit and extension contacts as variables of policy concern for the institutions of public and private policies design to reposition the Nigerian food crop production industry in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of food security. 180 pp. Englisch.

It consists of four main partswhich make empirical contributions to the fields of banking, productivity analysis, financial economics, macroeconomics and economic history. The… first part describes the construction of a newly developed data set, containing balance sheets and profit & loss accounts of Swiss banks from 1906-2007. The second part is about banking intermediation efficiency in Switzerland. Banking efficiency is estimated utilizing stochastic frontier analysis. The results show that state owned cantonal banks and co-operatives are more stable in terms of efficiency than big universal banks. There is little variation in cost efficiency. Scale effects are present, while banks with market power do not seem to obstruct smaller banks. A risk measure based on the Basel II standardized approach is included to incorporate the cost of risk. The third part investigates Swiss banking crises and their effect on the Swiss economy. Banking crises are determined by estimating deviations from potential return on equity with Bayesian dynamic stochastic frontier analysis. Several periods of distress are revealed. The most prominent are the Great Depression, the mortgage crisis of the 1990s, the burst of the dot-com bubble and the onset of the sub-prime crisis in 2007. These are put in historical perspective. The deviations from potential output are included in a Bayesian dynamic factor model in order to generate an aggregated banking distress measure. To estimate the macroeconomic effects of banking crises this indicator is used in a time-varying coefficients Bayesian vector autoregression with sign restrictions identification setup. The results show that GDP growth, the banking sector and credit conditions responded strongly to banking shocks. The dependence of the Swiss economy on its banking industry is strongest during the Great Depression, weak in the mid 20th century and regains importance during the 1990s/2000s. Credit conditions relax earlier now than in the 1930s, while banks recover more quickly. The fourth part studies the reduction in macroeconomic volatility in Switzerland from 1949-2006 with respect to an abatement in economic shocks. The data for a set of variables are compared with the predictions from a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with financial frictions using a relative mean square approximation error. The hypothesis, that a large part of the reduction in macroeconomic volatility in the last 25-30 years could be the consequence of ¿good luck¿ in form of smaller shocks, cannot be rejected. 230 pp. Englisch.

Herkunft, Herstellung, Aussehen und die chemische Zusammensetzung wurden beschrieben. Über die Zusammensetzung von weißem Tee…und über seine chemischen Verbindungen wurde nicht viel geforscht oder publiziert. Allerdings findet man einige Literaturdaten über die Wirkungen des weißen Tees. Es wurden viele Aussagen über weißen Tee getroffen, dass weißer Tee weniger Coffein, höhere Konzentrationen an Antioxidantien und eine höhere antimutagene Aktivität hat im Vergleich zu grünem Tee.Diese Behauptungen basieren nicht auf wissenschaftlichen Studien. Deswegen wurde die vorliegende Arbeit durchgeführt, um erste Anzeichen auf mögliche Unterschiede in der chemischen Zusammensetzung von weißem Tee zu bekommen. Dazu wurde eine Doppelbestimmung von 30 weißen Teesorten, 34 grünen Teesorten und 5 schwarzen Teesorten unterschiedlicher Provenienz durchgeführt und deren Ergebnisse untereinander verglichen. Neben Blatt-Tee wurden neun weiße und 14 grüne Instant-Tee-Proben in dieser Arbeit untersucht. Untersucht wurden verschiedene Gruppen phenolischer Verbindungen (Flavanole, Proanthocyanidine und Flavanolglykoside), der Gesamtpolyphenolgehalt und der Theaningehalt. Die Analysen wurden mit HPLC-DAD, HPLC-MS und NMR durchgeführt.Im Durchschnitt enthält weißer Tee mehr phenolische Verbindungen als grüner Tee. Die Summe der fünf wichtigsten Catechine schwankt stark je nach der Sorte, Provenienz oder Verarbeitung der Tees und liegt in grünen und weißen Tees durchschnittlich im gleichen Bereich. Es wurde beobachtet, dass weißer Tee mehr Coffein und TG bzw. weniger EGC enthält als grüner Tee. Allein aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Gesamtpolyphenol- und der Catechingehalte kann nicht verallgemeinert werden, ob es sich um einen Weiß- oder Grüntee handelt. 116 pp. Deutsch.

Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung w…ird die Bedeutung der dezentralen Energiewandlung durch Mini-BHKW für die öffentliche Stromversorgung analysiert und deren Einfluss auf den Betrieb von elektrischen Verteilungsnetzen quantifiziert. Darauf aufbauend wird ein netzorientierter Verbundbetrieb vorgestellt, der neben der Energieversorgung der Wohnobjekte auch die Anforderungen des elektrischen Verteilungsnetzes berücksichtigt.Anhand einer Marktpotenzialabschätzung für Mini-BHKW zur Hausenergieversorgung in Deutschland können Szenarien abgeleitet werden, die verschiedene Markterschließungsgrade beschreiben. Zur Simulation des BHKW-Betriebs dienen zum einen Messdaten von Ortnetztransformatoren, zum anderen probabilistische Lastgänge für elektrische Energie sowie zur Heizwärme und Trinkwarmwasser. Die Simulation ist damit in der Lage Auswirkungen der dezentralen Energiewandlung im Versorgungsnetz sowie in der Hausenergieversorgung anhand wesentlicher Kennzahlen zu beschreiben. Die Gegenüberstellung der entwickelten Integrationsstrategie mit dem wärmegeführten BHKW-Betrieb erfolgt nach einer technischen Bewertung auch wirtschaftlich. Hierbei erfolgt eine Einordnung der Betriebsweise mit der dynamischen Kapitalwertmethode. Dabei werden zur Motivation der netzorientierten Betriebsweise verschiedene monetäre Anreizsysteme vorgestellt und im Anschluss technisch und wirtschaftlich bewertet. Die Ergebnisse der wirtschaftlichen Untersuchungen liefern im Weiteren Ansätze für die Entwicklung von Geschäftsmodellen für einen netzorientierten BHKW-Verbundbetrieb. Hierbei werden die verschiedenen Marktteilnehmer, die als Betreiber geeignet erscheinen, diskutiert und das Verfahren zur Realisierung eines Energieliefer-Contractings in der Wohnungswirtschaft beschrieben. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der dargestellte BHKW-Verbundbetrieb sowohl technisch als auch wirtschaftlich große Vorteile dem wärmegeführten Betrieb gegenüber liefert. The second part is about banking intermediation efficiency in Switzerland. Banking efficiency is estimated utilizing stochastic frontier analysis. The results show that state owned cantonal banks and co-operatives are more stable in terms of efficiency than big universal banks. There is little variation in cost efficiency. Scale effects are present, while banks with market power do not seem to obstruct smaller banks. A risk measure based on the Basel II standardized approach is included to incorporate the cost of risk. The third part investigates Swiss banking crises and their effect on the Swiss economy. Banking crises are determined by estimating deviations from potential return on equity with Bayesian dynamic stochastic frontier analysis. Several periods of distress are revealed. The most prominent are the Great Depression, the mortgage crisis of the 1990s, the burst of the dot-com bubble and the onset of the sub-prime crisis in 2007. These are put in historical perspective. The deviations from potential output are included in a Bayesian dynamic factor model in order to generate an aggregated banking distress measure. To estimate the macroeconomic effects of banking crises this indicator is used in a time-varying coefficients Bayesian vector autoregression with sign restrictions identification setup. The results show that GDP growth, the banking sector and credit conditions responded strongly to banking shocks. The dependence of the Swiss economy on its banking industry is strongest during the Great Depression, weak in the mid 20th century and regains importance during the 1990s/2000s. Credit conditions relax earlier now than in the 1930s, while banks recover more quickly. The fourth part studies the reduction in macroeconomic volatility in Switzerland from 1949-2006 with respect to an abatement in economic shocks. The data for a set of variables are compared with the predictions from a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model with financial frictions using a relative mean square approximation error. The outcome…of the coordination depends on the precise reaction conditions as well as the nature of the spacer and the transition metal salt.This thesis is concerned with the reaction between cobalt(II) salts and bis(2,2':6',2'-terpyridine) ligands in which the metal-binding domains are linked by flexible oligo(ethylene glycol) spacers. An initial study of the ligands and several model mononuclear bis(2,2':6',2'-terpyridine)cobalt(II) and (III) complexes gave some insight into the solid state and solution properties of these systems, and PGSE NMR spectroscopy was found to be a useful tool for determination of the size of both the ligands and the cobalt(III) complexes in solution. The reaction of the ditopic ligands with cobalt(II) acetate tetrahydrate in pure alcohol was found to cause the decomposition of the ligand and the formation of a mononuclear bis(4'-alkoxy-2,2':6',2'-terpyridine)cobalt(II) complex. This reaction was extended to monotopic 4'-substituted-2,2':6',2'-terpyridines and can be considered as a reaction giving rise to polymer end-capping units, thus influencing the final outcome of the coordination. The effect of the anion on the coordination was considered further, and the speciation of mono- and bis(2,2':6',2'-terpyridine)cobalt(II) complexes in solution was investigated using the 4'-methoxy-2,2':6',2'-terpyridine ligand. The product mixtures were found to depend heavily on the anion, solvent and initial ratio of ligand to metal salt. Similar behaviour was observed for a model ditopic ligand. The presence of the mono(2,2':6',2'-terpyridine)cobalt(II) complexes within a system containing the ditopic ligands would also provide polymer end-capping units, influencing the speciation of these mixtures. Finally, a detailed study of the product mixtures obtained from the reactions of the ditopic ligands with cobalt(II) salts revealed a complex dependence of the speciation of many bis(2,2':6',2'-terpyridine)cobalt(II) complexes on the ligand, anion, solvent, concentration and other seemingly minor reaction parameters. Using the PGSE NMR spectroscopic technique, the sizes of some of the metallomacrocyclic species present in the equilibrium mixtures could be determined. These measurements were in excellent agreement with X-ray crystallographic data. Im Gegensatz zu der univariaten Regression werden bei der multivariaten Datenanalyse geeignete spektrale Bereiche zur Modellerstellung verwendet, wodurch man mehr Informationen aus den erhaltenen Messdaten gewinnt, die mit dem Coatingverlauf in Zusammenhang gebracht werden können. Dabei stellen die Auswahl des spektralen Wellenzahlbereiches, Anzahl der Hauptkomponenten und die Datenvorbehandlung wichtige Parameter dar, welche die Qualität des Modells entscheidend beeinflussen.Die mit der Ramanspektroskopie entwickelte Methode wurde in Übereinstimmung mit der ICH Guideline Q2 validiert. Dabei wurden die charakteristischen Validierungselemente in Hinblick auf die Übertragung für inline Messungen untersucht. Im Gegensatz zur Trommeldrehzahl, die nicht signifikant die Vorhersage des Modells beeinflusst, kommt dem Messabstand eine wichtige Bedeutung zu. Aber bedingt durch die große Tiefenschärfe der PhAT-Sonde ist ein Spielraum für im Prozess auftretende Veränderungen im Sondenabstand zur Tablettenoberfläche gegeben. Mit Hilfe des erstellten multivariaten Modells war es möglich, anhand der inline Messungen den Prozessverlauf beim Wirkstoffcoating mit dem Modellarzneistoff Diprophyllin auf Placebotabletten zu verfolgen. Die Ramanspektren enthalten chemische Informationen über das Coatingmaterial, womit die im Laufe des Prozesses erfolgten Veränderungen in den Spektren im direkten Zusammenhang mit dem Coatingfortschritt stehen. Weiterhin war es auch möglich, bei genügend hoher Konzentration des Diprophyllins in der Sprühflüssigkeit bzw. bei genügend aufgetragener Menge den Auftrag auf Diprophyllintabletten zu verfolgen. Aufgrund der Eindringtiefe von ungefähr 2 mm des Laserspots der PhAT-Sonde konnte auch nach dem Prozess der Kern ausreichend detektiert werden. Da sich die Zusammensetzung der Sprühflüssigkeit und der Diprophyllintabletten voneinander unterscheiden, kann der Prozess auch durch die inline Messungen verfolgt werden, wenn die Konzentration des Diprophyllins in der Sprühflüssigkeit stark erniedrigt wird. Es werden Designstrategien von Einheitszellen gezeigt, die zu starken magnetischen sowie elektrischen Kopplungen führen, was zu deutlichen Vorteilen, nämlich einer drastisch erhöhten Flächeneffizienz und höheren Gütefaktoren, führt. Die im Anschluss beschriebenen Realisierungsformen von abstimmbaren Einheitszellen ermöglichen differentielle Transmissionsleitungen, deren wesentliche Parameter wie Wellenwiderstand, elektrische Länge und Gütefaktor mit Hilfe von Abstimmspannungen eingestellt werden können. Desweiteren werden Simulationsmethoden zur Berechnung sämtlicher Strukturen bzw. Einheitszellen mittels Feldsimulatoren in Kombination mit Schaltungssimulatoren erläutert. Markttransparenz, informierte Versicherte, geringe finanzielle, emotionale und prozedurale Wechselkosten sowie ein gewisses Maß an allgemein vorhandener Wechselbereitschaft sind dabei die wichtigsten Voraussetzungen, um diesen Wettbewerb in Gang zu setzen. Im empirischen Teil der Arbeit wird deutlich, dass durchaus Wechselfreude in der PKV existiert. Es zeigen sich unerwartet hohe Wechselquoten. Allerdings ergeben sich diese Zahlen hauptsächlich aufgrund der Wechsel von bestimmten Subgruppen: Jüngere, gesündere, kürzer versicherte Personen unternehmen vorwiegend externe Versicherungswechsel, wohingegen die älteren, kränkeren, länger gebundenen Kunden eher auf interne Tarifwechsel ausweichen. Es sollte hier jedoch nicht in Vergessenheit geraten, dass das Phänomen der Gebundenheit auch in anderen Wirtschaftsbereichen und sogar in der GKV existiert. Neben der Bedeutung finanzieller Wechselkosten kann die hohe Relevanz des Informationsstandes der Versicherten im Wechselprozess vermerkt werden. Falsche oder fehlende Informationen stellen eine wichtige Wechselhürde dar. Dieser Argumentation könnte allerdings entgegengehalten werden, dass das Wettbewerbsniveau dennoch zu gering ist und bestimmte Versichertengruppen besonders belastet sind. Über die Zusammensetzung von weißem Tee und…über seine chemischen Verbindungen wurde nicht viel geforscht oder publiziert. Allerdings findet man einige Literaturdaten über die Wirkungen des weißen Tees. Es wurden viele Aussagen über weißen Tee getroffen, dass weißer Tee weniger Coffein, höhere Konzentrationen an Antioxidantien und eine höhere antimutagene Aktivität hat im Vergleich zu grünem Tee.Diese Behauptungen basieren nicht auf wissenschaftlichen Studien. Deswegen wurde die vorliegende Arbeit durchgeführt, um erste Anzeichen auf mögliche Unterschiede in der chemischen Zusammensetzung von weißem Tee zu bekommen. Dazu wurde eine Doppelbestimmung von 30 weißen Teesorten, 34 grünen Teesorten und 5 schwarzen Teesorten unterschiedlicher Provenienz durchgeführt und deren Ergebnisse untereinander verglichen. Neben Blatt-Tee wurden neun weiße und 14 grüne Instant-Tee-Proben in dieser Arbeit untersucht. Untersucht wurden verschiedene Gruppen phenolischer Verbindungen (Flavanole, Proanthocyanidine und Flavanolglykoside), der Gesamtpolyphenolgehalt und der Theaningehalt. Die Analysen wurden mit HPLC-DAD, HPLC-MS und NMR durchgeführt.Im Durchschnitt enthält weißer Tee mehr phenolische Verbindungen als grüner Tee. Die Summe der fünf wichtigsten Catechine schwankt stark je nach der Sorte, Provenienz oder Verarbeitung der Tees und liegt in grünen und weißen Tees durchschnittlich im gleichen Bereich. Es wurde beobachtet, dass weißer Tee mehr Coffein und TG bzw. weniger EGC enthält als grüner Tee. Jahrhundert als eine der wichtigsten deutschen Schaustellermetropolen.Basierend auf der Auswertung umfangreichen Quellenmaterials untersucht diese Arbeit Schaustellungen und Lustbarkeiten auf Leipziger Messen des 19. Jahrhunderts. Neben Fahr-, Belustigungs- und Geschicklichkeitsgeschäften werden vor allem Schaugeschäfte ausgewertet und dargestellt, deren schillernde Vielfalt uns heute oft sehr verblüfft.Alle artistischen Genres waren hier vertreten. Akrobaten, Gymnastiker und Athleten begeisterten das Publikum ebenso wie Seiltänzer, Equilibristen und Jongleure. Da gab es Schlangenmenschen, Zauberer und Gedächtniskünstler; Theatergruppen traten auf, alles umrahmt von der niemals fehlenden Messemusik. Es kamen Feuerwerkskünstler, Tierstimmenimitatoren, Bauchredner und Marionettenspieler. Zu bewundern waren Schnellläufer, Deckenläufer, Taucher, Verschluckkünstler, Allesfresser und Hungerkünstler.Ein Teil der Untersuchung ist der Schaustellung von Personen gewidmet - Personen, die anders waren, als das Messepublikum. In diesen Bereich gehören die so genannten Riesen und Zwerge, Haarmenschen und Bartfrauen, Albinos, Tätowierte, Rumpfmenschen, Halbmenschen, Fußkünstler und Siamesische Zwillinge. Darauf aufbauend wird ein netzorientierter Verbundbetrieb vorgestellt, der neben der Energieversorgung der Wohnobjekte auch die Anforderungen des elektrischen Verteilungsnetzes berücksichtigt.Anhand einer Marktpotenzialabschätzung für Mini-BHKW zur Hausenergieversorgung in Deutschland können Szenarien abgeleitet werden, die verschiedene Markterschließungsgrade beschreiben. Zur Simulation des BHKW-Betriebs dienen zum einen Messdaten von Ortnetztransformatoren, zum anderen probabilistische Lastgänge für elektrische Energie sowie zur Heizwärme und Trinkwarmwasser. Die Simulation ist damit in der Lage Auswirkungen der dezentralen Energiewandlung im Versorgungsnetz sowie in der Hausenergieversorgung anhand wesentlicher Kennzahlen zu beschreiben.Die Gegenüberstellung der entwickelten Integrationsstrategie mit dem wärmegeführten BHKW-Betrieb erfolgt nach einer technischen Bewertung auch wirtschaftlich. Hierbei erfolgt eine Einordnung der Betriebsweise mit der dynamischen Kapitalwertmethode. Dabei werden zur Motivation der netzorientierten Betriebsweise verschiedene monetäre Anreizsysteme vorgestellt und im Anschluss technisch und wirtschaftlich bewertet.Die Ergebnisse der wirtschaftlichen Untersuchungen liefern im Weiteren Ansätze für die Entwicklung von Geschäftsmodellen für einen netzorientierten BHKW-Verbundbetrieb. Die meisten THz-Spektroskopiesysteme bedienen sich auch heutzutage eines optischen Freistrahlaufbaus, der anfällig auf Erschütterungen, Schmutz und andere Umwelteinflüsse ist. Nachdem die THz-Spektroskopie anfänglich vorzugsweise zu akademischen Zwecken genutzt wurde, ergibt sich in den letzten Jahren mit dem einhergehenden technologischen Fortschritt eine stetig wachsende Zahl an Anwen-dungsgebieten. Der Einsatz eines THz-Spektrometers außerhalb des Labors in rauen Umgebungen bedingt jedoch ein Höchstmaß an Signalstabilität und Robustheit des Gesamtsystems. Anwendungen, wie beispielsweise die Detektion von gefährlichen Flüssigkeiten bei Sicherheitsprüfungen an Flughäfen oder industrielle Einsatzszenarien erfordern zudem flexible THz-Antennen, die u.a. unabhängig voneinander bewegt werden können und nicht starr mit dem System verbunden sind.
