The focus is on the mean flow generation mechanisms by: 1) centrifugally unstable Görtler vortices and 2) resonant excitation of inertial waves in a stable regime. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of the fluid flow in a rotating annular container with longitudinally librating walls are used to investigate the mechanisms.Longitudinal libration of the cylinder side walls of an annulus induces in a supercritical regime an unstable Stokes boundary layer which generates Görtler vortices in a portion of a libration cycle, as a discrete event. DNS results show that these vortices propagate into the fluid bulk and generate an azimuthal mean flow. Reynolds-averaged Navier¿Stokes (RANS) equations are used as a diagnostic tool to investigate generation mechanism of the azimuthal mean flow in the bulk. First, we explain, phenomenologically, how absolute angular momentum of the bulk flow is mixed and changed due to propagation of the Görtler vortices, causing a new vortex of basin scale size. Then we investigate the RANS equations for an intermediate time scale of the development of the Görtler vortices, and for a long time scale of the order of several libration periods. The former exhibits sign selection of the azimuthal mean flow. Investigating the latter, we predict that the azimuthal mean flow is proportional to the libration amplitude squared and to the inverse square root of the Ekman number and libration frequency. We confirm this using the numerical data. Additionally, presence of an upscale cascade of energy is shown, using kinetic energy budget of fluctuating flow. In the second part of the current study, we investigate the mean flow generation mechanism by intrinsic nonlinearity of the inertial wave beams and normal modes in a rotating annular cavity with longitudinally librating top and bottom lids in a stable regime. We confirm the generation of progressive inertial waves as localized shear layer and normal modes as standing waves at and close to the resonance frequencies. We focus on the low order inertial normal modes. Using the DNS results, we show that when the low order normal modes are excited, a non-geostrophic azimuthal mean flow is generated in the bulk. Following Tilgner (2007) and using analytical and DNS solutions, we identify the source terms responsible for generation of the azimuthal mean flow. We show that helical property of the inertial waves and normal modes causes the source terms. Using the analytical solution, we separate the inertial wave beams from the DNS solution. We show that at and close to the resonance frequency, libration phase of the normal modes is always following that of the inertial wave beam, and their phase lag depends on the libration frequency. Analogy to classical mechanics is commented. Generation efficiency of the mean flow is discussed with respect to the phase lag. Additionally, we address wave-wave and wave-boundary layer interactions, and dependency of the mean flow on the dimensionless parameters. At the time when the research and technical developments described in this thesis were initiated, there were no laser technologies available meeting the requirements regarding compactness and reliability. This work is therefore devoted to developing the required laser technologies that will provide a demonstration of BEC and atomic interferometry in space for the first time ever. This research was carried out as part of the project ¿LASUS¿ which provided the technology development for the sounding rocket mission ¿MAIUS¿. In the framework of this thesis, concepts were developed to realize micro-integrated extended cavity diode lasers (ECDLs) for rubidium (Rb) and potassium (K) spectroscopy.The ECDL modules contain only non-moveable components that are integrated on a micro-optical bench with footprints of 50 × 10 mm2 and 80 × 25 mm2. They are based on a Littrow configuration with an external cavity length of ~30 mm. The micro-integrated ECDLs provide an output power ¿ 35 mW behind a micro-optical isolator with 30 dB isolation and a short-term (170 µs) FWHM linewidth of significantly less than 100 kHz. The intrinsic linewidth corresponds to only 260 Hz. To qualify the micro-integrated ECDLs for future quantum optics precision experiments in space, vibration tests (8.1 gRMS and 21.4 gRMS) and mechanical shock tests (1500 g) were carried out. No degradation of the electro-optical performance was observed. Moreover, the electro-optical properties of the macroscopic ECDLs were optimized for micro-integrated ECDL modules. Further, distributed feedback diode (DFB) lasers were electro-optically characterized and optimized, again for Rb and K spectroscopy. Rb-DFB lasers provide single mode emission with an output power of more than 180 mW. In the present work, a numerical framework for solving interfacial convection-diffusion problems based on a Discontinuous Galerkin method is established. In contrast to most traditional approaches, the method introduced here maintains the original Eulerian grid as well as an implicit representation of the interface, rather than establishing a Lagrangian, i.e. interfacial grid. An MPI parallelized and modular software package for the numerical approximation of interfacial transport problems by polynomials of arbitrary order is presented. Well-posedness of the problem and computational efficiency are achieved by a narrow band structure around the moving interface. A pseudo-timestepping method is provided by which extended quantities can be extrapolated to new cells in this dynamic Narrow Band while being accurately preserved on the interface. Tanintharyi Nature Reserve (TNR) is located in Southern Myanmar, an area under severe threat of rubber and palm oil plantations, ineffective land use shifting cultivation, encroachment into forests, and indiscriminate cutting leading to deforestation. Firstly, this study was carried out in TNR as an ecosystem analysis. In the core zone, 81 species in the primary moist evergreen forest-1 and 57 species in the degraded moist forest-1 were identified. In the buffer zone, 83 species in the primary moist evergreen forest-2; 86 species in the secondary moist evergreen forest-2, and 67 species in the degraded moist deciduous forest-2 were enlisted. For species-site matching and their performance, Michelia champaca, Aglaia andamanica, Ficus glomerata, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Lithocarpus sp-1, and Cinnamonum pachphyllum in the highland areas and Vitex peduncularis, Oroxylum indicum, and Barringtonia cymosa in the degraded lowland areas were therefore the most adaptable species to environmental and salt stresses for reforestation in TNR. This study in the greenhouse found that the soil solute potentials of Xylia xylocarpa seedlings for the commercial potting soil and hydroponic gravel culture were -1.5 MPa and -1.2 MPa respectively for their tolerance to soil salinity to the reforestation programme in the TNR degraded land areas. The nitrogen content (% MS) of the important 35 tree species showed very weak relationship with their diameter distribution or slope b values in this study for light requirements. Moreover, top height could be used to classify species into groups for light requirements in this study. Rebeccamycin bzw. seine Analoga stellen eine interessante Gruppe von Zytostatika dar, die als Topoisomerase-Hemmer wirken und in die DNA-Replikation der Zellen eingreifen und somit Potential als Krebstherapeutika zeigen. Die Optimierung der Rebeccamycinproduktion wurde auf verschiedenen Wegen bewerkstelligt. Einerseits wurde der Ansatz verfolgt, die Produktion durch Beeinflussung der Kultivierungsbedingungen zu verbessern. Hier wurden die Art des Inokulums, Medienzusammensetzung und Zugabe verschiedener Mikro- und Makropartikel getestet und deren Auswirkung auf die Morphologie des filamentös wachsenden Mikroorganismus und seine Produktivität untersucht. In den Untersuchungen konnte ein produktivitätssteigender Einfluss von Mikropartikeln auf L. aerocolonigenes aufgezeigt werden. Im Vordergrund stand dabei die Realisierung von Schottky-Typ MSM PD, die für die Photodetektion für Wellenlängen unterhalb von 300 nm geeignet sind und eine möglichst hohe externe Quanteneffizienz (EQE) aufweisen. Solche Detektoren erlauben den Nachweis von UV- Strahlung ohne störenden Einfluss des Sonnenlichts.Basierend auf experimentellen und simulierten Daten front- und rückseitig bestrahlter Al0.5Ga0.5N/AlN MSM PD auf planaren Saphir-Templates wurde eine umfangreiche Studie zusammen-gestellt, in der das Schwellen- und Sättigungsverhalten der EQE dieser Bauteile auf die Polarisationsladung am AlGaN/AlN-Hetero-Übergang zurückgeführt wurde. Darauf aufbauend wurden die Einflüsse von Schichtstruktur, Elektrodengeometrie und Metallisierungsschema auf die Verringerung der nötigen Betriebsspannung untersucht und diese Optimierungsansätze so kombiniert, dass eine EQE von 24% bei 0 V erzielt werden konnte. Darüber hinaus wurden frontseitig bestrahlte Al0.4Ga0.6N MSM PD auf epitaktisch lateral überwachsenen (ELO) AlN-Templates untersucht. Dünne AlGaN-Absorberschichten wiesen dabei eine ausgeprägte Inhomogenität der Materialzusammensetzung auf. Aufgrund der damit verbundenen internen Grenzflächen entsteht Photostromverstärkung verbunden mit erhöhten Dunkelströmen. Die Auslegung einer Kolonne erfordert die Kenntnis ihrer Trennleistung. Diese ist aber nicht nur von den verwendeten Einbauten abhängig, sondern auch von den Stoffeigenschaften des Gemisches. Eine erhöhte Viskosität der Flüssigkeit ist hierbei ein sehr wichtiger Faktor, weil sie die Kapazität eines Apparates verringern und zu einer schlechteren Stofftrennung führen kann. Bisher fehlten aber Daten zur optimalen Auslegung bezüglich Investition und Energiekosten. Daher wurde in dieser Arbeit die Trennleistung von zwei strukturierten Packungen systematisch für Testgemische mit hoher und niedriger Viskosität gemessen. Die Trennleistung nahm dabei um bis zu 33% ab. Versuche bei mehreren Drücken und Gasbelastungen erlauben eine bessere Beurteilung aller Einflussfaktoren. Für ein vertieftes Verständnis der Zusammenhänge und Auswirkungen sorgt auch die Messung des Hold-up und der Verweilzeit der Flüssigkeit. Es ist ein kleiner Ort mit heute gerade einmal 600 Einwohnern.Und doch ist dieser Ort mit einer reichen und nicht uninteressanten Gechichte verknüpft.Aus den ersten Anfängen um 500/600 n.Chr. (erste urkundliche Erwähnung 772 n. Chr.), als ein Franke namens Fiscilo hier in der Nähe sein Gehöft erstellte, entwickelte sich der Ort so nach und nach, bis wir um 1280 zum ersten Mal dem Namen 'Großfischlingen' begegnen. Der Ort entwickelt sich unter wechselnden Herrschaften irgendwie weiter, auch wenn dazu nur spärliche Informationen vorliegen, wurden doch alle Unterlagen zum Dorf (außer einigen Urkunden in Klöstern) im 30-jährigen Krieg vernichtet. Das Dorf war jetzt völlig verwüstet und ausgerottet. Erst für die Zeit danach können wir auf das eine oder andere Zeugnis zurückgreifen und daraus ein Bild vom Leben und der Lebenswirklichkeit der Dorfbewohner von 1650 bis 1950 entstehen lassen.Es war ein hartes Leben, dem unsere Vorfahren hier ausgesetzt waren.Der Autor versucht zunächst einmal, das Leben in einem Bauerndorf zwischen den Jahren 1940 und 1955 vorzustellen, so wie er es noch in Erinnerung hat.
