Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung steht eine Vereinigung von Intellektuellen und Geistlichen aus dem Golfstaat Bahrain, der sogenannten Altajdeed Cultural & Social Society. Ihr Ziel ist es, die islamische Glaubens- und Rechtslehre grundlegend zu erneuern, um somit die Voraussetzungen für den Anschluss der arabischen Welt an die Moderne zu schaffen.
