Hence, they focus on the myths, traditions and attitudes that are regarded as typically English. This is a subject which is also of central interest to recent literary criticism and cultural history at large. Among the many novels that deal with a literary exploration of England's past, its cultural memory, and its national identity are such well-known works as John Fowles' Daniel Martin (1977), Jonathan Raban's travelogue Coasting (1986), Andrew Sinclair's 'Albion triptych', including his novels Gog (1967), Magog (1972) and King Ludd (1988), Adam Thorpe's Ulverton (1992), Peter Ackroyd's English Music (1992) and Antonia S. Byatt's and Graham Swift's novels. These works can be regarded as a kind of echo-chamber of England's cultural history, for they display 'deliberate Englishness'.1 With its interest in Englishness, the nature of historical truth, and the blurring of boundaries between the authentic and the imitation, Julian Barnes' novel England, England (1998), which was short-listed for the Booker prize in 1998, shares important concerns with many contemporary British novels. Like a host of other novels published after the 1960s, England, England focuses on the question of how much we can ever know about the past. Hence, this novel shows all the features characteristic of postmodernist historiographic metafiction. That is to say, like other historiographic metafictions, England, England is 'both intensely selfreflexive and yet paradoxically also lay[s] claim to historical events and personages'.2 What is more, Barnes' novel also reflects the feature which has been the major focus of attention in most of the critical work on postmodernism, i.e. a self-conscious assessment of the status and function of narrative in literature, history, and theory: 'its theoretical self-awareness of history and fiction as human constructs (historiographic metafiction) is made the grounds for its rethinking and reworking of the forms and contents of the past'.3 16 pp. Englisch.

Since the appropriateness of a study, as well as its ability to beaccepted as scientific research, depend very much on the correct choice of theapplied research method(s), the decision process for the latter constitutes acrucial phase of the overall research operation.As many researchers encounter ambiguities when it comes to selecting thesuitable research technique, this paper provides a critical reflection on severalarguments for and against the employment of in-depth interviews, one of themost common tools used in qualitative research.The aim of this paper is, therefore, to consider the strengths and weaknesses ofin-depth interviews from various angles, in order to advance the perspicuity ofthe question in which situations it is apt to use interviews as a research tool andwhen to better search for alternative methods.To arrive at this objective, four main issues have been explored through areview of already existing literature. First, the merits of individual in-depthinterviews are examined. Then the paper addresses the question of whatpossible drawbacks one may come across when selecting in-depth interviewingas a research method. Furthermore, a short comment on the application of indepthinterviews in qualitative tourism research is given. Finally, in theconclusions/recommendations section it is explained for which types ofinvestigations the in-depth interview is the appropriate research technique.As indicated above, the main focus of this paper is not on providing a guide forthe general set-up and implication process of an in-depth interview. The mainspotlight is rather on the enhancement of the detailed knowledge of researcherson in-depth interviews, with the ultimate goal to make a contribution to increasethe number of cases where research methods have been appropriately chosen.Hence, a certain level of previous knowledge about in-depth interviewing isexpected from the reader in order to be able to follow the content of this paper. 16 pp. Englisch.

Picallo (1984) criticaeste análisis y propone que la asimetría de extracción de sujeto y objeto en españoldiscutida por Rizzi (1982) está limitada a frases subordinadas subjuntivas en español.Según la autora la asimetria de extracción de sujeto y objeto no puede ser observadaen frases subordinadas indicativas. Un gran número de exploradores se ha acercado a este fenómeno desde un punto de vista psicolingüístico. Este enfoque psicolingüístico, asentado den- tro del marco del modelo de los principios y parámetros, ofrece un punto de partida prometador para la explicación adecuada de un conjunto de problemas con los cuales se ve confrontado el estudio de la adquisición del lenguaje. Las varias aproximaciones psicolingüísticas a este campo de estudio son estrechamente relacionadas con la idea de la maduración de las capacidades cognitivas del aprendiz y coinciden en subrayar el paapel decisivo que desempeña el innatismo del dispositivo de adquisición del len- guaje. La ponencia presente tiene como objetivo exponer los contornos de una tal apro- ximacion sostenida con éxito por un gran número de investigadores. Partiendo de un enfoque psicolingüístico elaborado sobre todo por Radford (1995) y Pinker (1984) la gramática infantil puede ser caracterizada principalmente por una subespecificación gramatical comparada con la gramática adulta. La palabra griega antigua 'd…aimon'/'daimonion' describe un ser divino subordinado que ocupa los grados medios y bajos en contraposición a dioses de alto rango en la jerarquía divina. Segun la religióngriega antigua los 'daimones' fueron malos fantasmas que tomaban posesión del hombre y que provocaban enfermedades mentales y otras enfermedades. Un tal hombre estaba obsesionado con el 'daimon' y sólo era curado si un exorcista lograba expulsar al demonioque había tomado posesión de él. La palabra griega antigua 'exorkismus' describe la expulsión por la cual el demonio era forzado jurar reconocer un poder más alto. Una variedadde estados patológicos era considerada la obra de malos fantasmas. Según la religión griega antigua era posible por el exorcismo de un demonio curar enfermedades como la epilepsía, el histerismo, la perturbación mental, el sonambulismo (caminar en sueños) yel delirio acompañado por la fiebre alta. La asosiación del fatalismo, la fe en el destino, con la fe en demonios sirve para explicar un crimen grave e inconcebible. Borer (1984) et Chomsky (1989) proposentque la paramétrisation ne se réfère pas aux principes universels eux-mêmes tels quela sous-jacence ou le mouvement de SN mais seulement à de propriétés grammaticalesdes éléments lexicaux ('Lexical Parameterization Hypothesis). Selon la théoriede la paramétrisation avancée par Ouhalla (1991) les domaines grammaticauxde la Grammaire Universelle qui sont soumis à la paramétrisation sont encore plusréstreints. Les auteurs interprètent la haute pourcentage du mélange de codes dans les phrases à deux mots à ce stade développemental initial comme de l évidence pour la fusion des deux systèmes grammaticaux au niveau syntaxique et pour la différenciation de la compétence grammaticale au niveau lexical pendant cet espace de temps. C est seulement à base de cette interprétation que Volterra & Taeschner (1978) postulent l existence d une étape acquisitionnelle intermédiare pendant l acquisition simultanée de deux langues premières à laquelle les deux systemes grammaticaux ne sont pas encoredifferenciés au niveau syntaxique.
