Moral development of the child. 4. Value education principles and practices. 5. Character education and development. 6. Changes and challenges of moral education. 7. Human rights education. Bibliography. Index. This book has been designed as a introductory text which looks into the importance of value education and human right education. Value education often tends to be neglected in most schools especially in contemporary times where the rapidly changing social context tends to negatively scrutinise the effectiveness of these values and their needs. Human rights education too is sidelined quite often considering that many hold these rights unattainable in a world where poverty famine and war still threaten the existence of millions of people or even in those countries where constitutional rights are respected by the police and enforced by the courts. At any rate however value education and human rights education are too important to ignore as they express the human aspiration to live in freedom and dignity. The book sets forth on a discussion of the concepts of values and human rights especially within the present context and what importance they hold for the average human being. In addition it engages in a discussion of the educational process in a larger global scenario and compares values and human rights education of different cultural milieus within this global scenario also making efforts to enforce their relevance today. 206 pp.

Each essay engages with key debates relating to the society and the status of women in India's literature and history. India has always been the undisputed land that placed women on a high pedestal and offered respect. A woman deified as Adi Shakti is the centre of family role relationship and society even in modern India. Biological differences never came in the way of enhancing eminence of women. Subsequent developments in the diachronic march of time and successive periods of subjugation culminated in the relegation of women's position in the social space in India. Indian women's writing in English is an area of enormous possibility and profit an open and inviting ground for the scholars. This volume presents twenty essays in addition to three interviews which seek to re examine the major concerns of the writers. 248 pp.

The editor in compiling a selection of popular folktales of North East India in a single volume aims for exploring the folklore of North East India. This compilation is perhaps the first attempt at bringing into single volume popular folktales of North East India. Eleven folktales have been selected from each region so as to get the folklore of each region equally represented. The folklore of each region has a distinct characteristic peculiar to the region from which it has evolved. The folktales of Arunachal Pradesh are rich in texture and content and reflect the honesty and simple heartedness of the people. The folklore of Assam is rich and varied and its vast store of folktales shows that the people of Assam have a genuine talent for narrative. The folktales are full of dramatic situations. The folktales of Manipur are old and outspoken because the people are themselves hearty and simple souls headstrong and uncouth at times but always immensely human. The folktales of Meghalaya kindle the imagination of the poet and in the folklore can be traced the concepts of the creations of the sun the eclipse and the moon the relationship between man Gods and animals and the glorification of love. The folklore of Mizoram savours of mysticism though not much importance is attached to Gods or divine beings. A grave and learned air characterizes the folklore of Nagaland and a gloomy mysticism pervades most of folktales. The folktales of Tripura have evolved out of the worship of the deities. Though there is no written record of their antiquity they bear the stamp of an origin of considerable antiquity. 296 pp.
