This is just one example where the volume of investments increased concurrently with the adoption of IFRS.Therefore, the question arises if the mandatory adoption of IFRS in the EU in 2005 or in other cases significantly affected and continues to affect investment decisions among adopters or third parties. In order to better account for differences between different types of investors and investees, we differentiate between retail investors, institutional investors and corporate finance activities. Moreover, we focus on the consequence of IFRS adoption on equity investment decisions as most research appears to focus on the equity instead of the credit market. Additionally, Lourenco & Branco point out that most research which finds no significant effects of IFRS adoption on investment decisions appears to focus on voluntary adoption before 2005.Thus, this paper mainly focuses on mandatory IFRS adoption. In this context, research suggests that mandatory IFRS adopters experience significant capital markets benefits as well as enhanced foreign institutional ownership and enhanced M&A activity. Ultimately, we observe four overarching drivers behind the aforementioned observations that impact investment decisions across different types of investors and investees.

Therefore, a theoretical framework, which ascribes specific functions to certain forms of violence, will be created. In a second step, the forms of violence as presented in American Psycho will be discussed and classified on the basis of the previously constructed framework.After having found, named and classified distinct features of violence and their functions in the novel, it will be investigated to what extent the horror Bret Easton Ellis has created differs from traditional illustrations of violence and horror. The overarching question of this segment will be: What did Bret Easton Ellis do differently which would explain the audience's intensive feeling of horror The introductory hypothesis is that American Psycho was able to use violence on various levels and with multiple functions. Violence is not solely used to assign certain character traits to the protagonist and the society he lives in but also serves as vehicle to overcome the protagonist's problems, namely anonymity of the cold-hearted world presented in the novel. Furthermore, violence also serves as a symbol for a constant and omnipresent threat, which creates the feeling of horror.Additionally, violence is also used as a provocation while simultaneously hinting at the absence of ethics, which then again turns out to be social criticism of the protagonist's world. In addition to this, the horror Bret Easton Ellis creates unites well-known concepts, brands, locations, etc. and combines those with an, until then, unknown feature, namely irrational and thereby uncontrollable violence. This creates a feeling of realism which, together with the absences of ethics, moral judgment and rationality, leaves the reader behind in a more vulnerable state than solely explicit violence in a surreal setting. This hypothesis will be taken up by the end of the paper and will then be verified, falsified or further modified.

Beyoncé is the most influential black pop artist and she struggles to keep a balance between her success and her black cultural identity which causes a discrepancy between her self-identification and her self-representation evoking issues in her authenticity as a feminist. It will hence be analysed in how far Beyoncé manages empower black women through her representation as an artist on stage and off stage and to what extent the pop culture she finds herself in influences this representation. Additionally, it will be examined in how far this influence on her self-representation affects the credibility of her feminist commitment.In order to do so, the paper subdivides into three main parts. The following chapter will offer a short introduction to feminist thought and especially black feminism, as the latter will be the main focus of the analysis. The third chapter will focus on the perception and status of black culture and bodies in contemporary pop culture. In chapter four, the actual analysis of Beyoncé as an advocate for black women will be provided in three subchapters.In doing so, her struggle between black identity and white pop culture as well as the consequences for her representation shall be regarded. The first subchapter will have its focus on the black feminist thought of Beyoncé's songs Formation and Flawless. Secondly, the representation of female bodies in contemporary pop music videos will be analysed by scrutinising Beyoncé's video for her song Partition as well as the lyrics. Lastly, the influence of white supremacy on Beyoncé's hairstyle will be examined regarding the significance of hair(styles) in black beauty and culture.

The outcome of this research suggests that a hybrid approach should be adopted, with the major focus being on practical experience supported by relevant theoretical knowledge and not the converse. A number of additional recommendations are presented how to balance and close the gap between theory and practice including a redesign of ordinary and advanced level educational teaching. Far greater emphasis needs to be placed on young people gaining early practical experience inside and outside the classroom. This can be achieved by developing practical workshops (pilot studies) for use in safe laboratory-type environments and by extending work placements within organizations during term times.

It can work as tension releaser, as well as an aggression diffuser. Further possibilities of use are to hedge directives and to hide criticism which can trouble the participants. Especially the trouble of responding correctly to these will be an issue of discussion. The ambivalence of humour can be seen here again, which, once more, makes the problem of defining humour clear.

Accordingly, numerous papers purport to provide evidence of capital market benefits through incremental disclosure.At the same time, firms refrain from voluntarily committing to increased disclosure, implying that there must be a trade-off between associated benefits and costs. Consequently, critics contend that the capital market benefits are inconclusive. Instead, increased disclosure may result in adverse capital market effects through increasing information asymmetry. Moreover, critics predict that increased disclosure imposes further costs on the firm.The purpose of this seminar thesis is to review existing literature on these expected costs of increased disclosure. Thereby, I focus on controversies regarding the heavily debated capital market effects as well as on specific forces that determine proprietary and litigation costs associated with increased disclosure. While a firm's disclosure choices likely are a joint outcome of market forces and incentives provided by regulation, the seminar thesis is limited to voluntary disclosure choices as a starting point for possible disclosure regulation.The remainder of the seminar thesis is structured as follows. Section 2 reviews the literature on the capital market effects of voluntary disclosure through its impact on information asymmetry. Section 3 discusses the ambiguous impact of voluntary disclosure on litigation and proprietary costs. Section 4 concludes the seminar thesis.

The central character among these people is Margarita Suarez, a nineteen-year-old Cuban girl, who tries to win a swimming race in the ocean as a Cuban not as an American. Margarita takes part in this race in search not only of the 'Cuban pride' but also of her own self-assertion. In her play, Sanchez-Scott uses Margarita's story as an allegory for the whole immigration experience which Latin Americans had to go through.Milcha Sanchez-Scott was born in a multicultural family. Her father was a Colombian man who lived in Mexico; her mother is Indonesian with Chinese-Dutch roots. Jane T. Peterson holds that 'her [Milcha's] heritage reflects a diversity of ethnic and cultural influences'. She is regarded as a playwright of powerfully expressive plays. Her works consistently reflect her concern with racial and political issues, particularly with the Latin woman's struggle for spiritual survival. Latin American heritage and the sense of this culture form the ultimate base of Sanchez-Scott's material. Much of her writing reveals her concern for Latin women and their families. Peterson is clear about the idea that 'Milcha Sanchez-Scott's work frequently explores woman's experiences in Hispanic-American bicultural context'.

A comparison is made with current chipset manufacturers implementations to create a tabular overview of these technologies and their suitability in Smart Home networks. Results show that every technology has its optimal field of application in a modern Smart Home. However, it can be concluded that further experiments will show more accurate results.

Secondly, centralization is claimed to be the main reason for failures of previous digital currencies while bitcoin's decentralized technology is seen as fulfilling all those long anticipated but never accomplished prerequisites. It is argued that bitcoin is a new innovative transaction technology providing an economic utility for businesses and consumers by reducing transaction costs. The predominantly negative media coverage of bitcoin as a Ponzi scheme or fraud is addressed as a misunderstanding of the necessary prerequisites anticipated in the literature for the evolution of digital currencies. Finally, bitcoin's transaction technology is looked at from a critical geography perspective emphasizing how it enables capital to flow in currently impenetrable spaces. This dynamic is understood as a continuation of the old imperialist expansion of capital by innovative technological means. In supporting this process, the United States is seen as acting as a hegemony providing a public good by facilitating capital flows.

As with other phytomedicines, there has been extensive body of evidences that have reported adverse effects due to their indiscriminate use owing (but not limited) to the perceived safety of plant-based formulations. After 2003, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has followed a more conceptualized foreign policy based on the neo-Ottomanist strategy. By researching the political dynamics, it becomes evident that since the Gulf War in 1991, Turkey has increasingly connected to the ethnic groups within Iraq and became one of the major players in Iraqi politics. Also, increased criticism of the Turkish government, coupled with the strong support of Turkish people, against to Israeli politics has been the important factor to attract both the people and the politicians in the Middle East. Overall, the research reflects that the strong public support and an appropriate foreign policy, based on the neo-Ottomanist strategy, have been the main factors to increase the Turkey's political sphere of influence in the Middle East.

Th…is was first undertaken by determining the causality between economic growth and child labour in Kenya. In 2017, the International Labour Organization reiterated that elimination of worst forms of child labour has been recognized to be critical pertaining to social and economic development sustainability. Child labour will continue to persist from now on and several decades to come in the Kenyan economy if not curbed. Kenya's Gross Domestic Product increased rapidly from 18.7 billion US $ in 2005, to 63.8 billion US $ in 2015. Child labour rose steadily from 2.4 million child labourers in 2005 to 3.7 million child labourers in 2015, despite positive increment in Kenya's Gross Domestic Product in Kenya from 2005 to 2015. From trends discussed in chapter one, it appears that positive increases in economic growth levels alone cannot be the only means to help in reducing or eliminating child labour in Kenya. Kenya's Gross Development Product has been increasing since 1980 to 2017 amidst fluctuations. Despite positive growth in Kenya's Gross Domestic Product, there is still an increase in child labour. The Toda-Yamamoto modified Granger causality (non-causality) model was fitted with time series data for the period 1980 to 2017. The estimated results revealed that there was no causality running from child labour to GDP in Kenya. Furthermore, there was causality running from GDP to child labour in Kenya. To establish the existence of a long run relationship between economic growth and child labour in Kenya, the unrestricted conditional error correction model was used in which economic growth was the dependent variable. The explanatory variables were child labour, investment in human capital, international trade openness, population growth and foreign direct investment. The estimation results revealed that a long run relationship existed between economic growth and child labour in Kenya. To determine the short run effects of child labour to economic growth in Kenya, the restricted error correction model was used in which economic growth was the dependent variable. The estimation results revealed that the coefficient of child labour was statistically significant in affecting economic growth of Kenya in the short run. From the empirical results, it was concluded that there was no causality running from child labour to GDP in Kenya where GDP was the dependent.
