Durch jene Hauptströmung der Weimarer Republik wird eine detailliertere Beschreibung des Großstadtromans der zwanziger und dreißiger Jahre erst möglich. Die Merkmale der Literatur dieser Bewegung werden mit dem Roman in Verbindung gesetzt, welcher daraufhin einer Gesellschaftsanalyse unterzogen wird. Es soll also herausgestellt werden, inwieweit das Großstadtmotiv in Fabian mit der Neuen Sachlichkeit in Verbindung gebracht werden kann. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Großstadt Berlin und ihre epochenspezifische Darstellungsweise. Im Gegensatz zu anderen, schillernderen Beschreibungen Berlins vermag Erich Kästner hier ein sehr satirisches und auch negatives Berlinbild zu zeichnen. Diese Darstellung wirft die Frage auf, ob die Großstadt, in diesem Fall das Berlin der zwanziger und dreißiger Jahre, den moralischen Verfall des Menschen in Gang setzt. Die Arbeit will also zeigen, dass Kästner hier nicht ein Bild der Großstadt, sondern den Verfall des Menschen durch die Großstadt schafft. Wie verhalten sich der im Werk im Fokus stehende Mensch und die Stadt Berlin zueinander Dabei ist es interessant, zu untersuchen welche Atmosphäre er zu genau diesem Zweck im Buch entstehen lässt und mit welchen Mitteln er den Verfall der Großstadtgesellschaft schildert. Students' perception was the dependent variable whereas the head teachers' age, gender, educational level and teaching experience were independent variables. The study was based on Tinto's (1975) model of student retention which stipulates that a student persists or drops out depending on their degree of both academic and social integration. The research design was a descriptive survey where questionnaires and interview schedule were used to collect data. Target populations were form three students, head teachers, counseling teachers, class teachers and the District Quality Assurance and Standards Officer. Sampling techniques used in the study were Simple Random, Stratified and Purposive. Reliability of the instruments was established through a pilot study in a school outside the study area. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the reliability coefficient that yielded a value of 0.82. Validity of instruments was determined through expert judgment involving discussions with other researcher's and colleagues. Data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study established that head teachers had not implemented the girls' re-admission policy to the expectation as reflected in the poor discharge of administrative, counseling and support roles. It was also established that head teachers' educational level and teaching experience had a positive influence on administrative role whereas teaching experience had a positive influence on both counseling and support roles. The study recommended; the Kenyan Ministry of Education to review the policy so as to come up with appropriate guidelines for implementation, counseling to be strengthened in schools , further training for head teachers and introduction of support programs for the girls who drop out of school due to pregnancy. 20 pp. Englisch. …

In Rwanda, it is thought that about 500,000 women were raped by Hutu militia, (Human Rights Watch, 1996). Further atrocities have been documented in Sierra Leone, where approximately 50,000 to 64,000 internally displaced women have reported war-related sexual assaults (Physicians for Human Rights, 2002). In Kenya, following the disputed presidential elections in 2008, violence erupted which saw acts of sexual violence (SV), such as, gang rape and mutilation. United Nations (UN, 2007) reports suggest that 27, 000 rapes occurred in one region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in 2007. SV has been predominant in many other conflicts such as in Uganda (Giller et al, 1991) and Sudan (Amnesty International, 2004). Research on this area tends to use the terms GBV and SV interchangeably and cannot be explored fully in this paper. There is limited research focusing on violence against males, and therefore this paper will concentrate on SV against women specifically.
