Dated Holne Park, Ashburton, June 26, (no year). To "My dear Sir," discussing the publisher, Longmans, and the customary financial arrangement between an author and his publisher. This was likely written after 1881, as Froude comments that he and his correspondent were virtual neighbors in this part of England (Devon) that Thomas Carlyle (d. 1881) liked very well. Mourning paper, one sheet folded to make four pp., three are used. Folded for mailing, A Very Good letter.
