Trade Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition Assumed. 266 Pages Indexed. Previous owner's name on the Title Page. No other marks. Our personality is shaped by the memories of the events we experience during our current life. Obvious ones are life transitions like the death of loved ones, divorce or relationship difficul…ties. However early childhood events can have a significant effect. Bowlby was one of the pioneers in psychology who identified that the absence of love from a parent or a consistent child minder can affect a child's ability in making affectionate bonds in later life. His research showed that this led to behavioral problems in teenage years and in later adulthood. These problems include personality disorders, acts against society, self-harm, depression and generalized anxiety. Powerful shaping comes from emotional trauma and memory imprinting. A traumatic event that is too large or frightening to be processed and integrated into consciousness is buried in the subconscious. This is the basis of Freud's ideas, later developed by psychologists Klein and Winnicott. Many of our irrational fears and behaviors can be traced back to an imprinted memory. A simple example would be a phobia, and a more complex one post-traumatic stress. If consciousness can travel from the brain can it travel from one life to another? Dr Ian Stevenson, the former Professor for Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, has specialized in collecting past-life stories from children around the world. He then interviewed the children and all the witnesses looking for inconsistency or fraud. Often he would do follow-up visits years later to check for signs of any personal gains that could explain a motive of deception.
