Attitudes were investigated using the Opinions on Mental Illness (OMI) questionnaire (Cohen and Struening, 1959), where sub-scales within the questionnaire were used to measure five factors that underlie attitudes towards mental illness . It was found that there was a significant difference in overall attitudes towards mental illness between Syria and UK, with Syrian participants holding more positive attitudes than UK participants. Also, there was a significant difference in sub-scale scores between Syria and UK and a significant interaction between attitude and country. The study concluded that positive attitudes towards mental illness are driven by religious kindliness and moral beliefs; and negative aspects of attitudes are rooted in a conviction that mental illness is motivated. It is suggested that investigating the different factors that underlie attitudes would be useful in guiding awareness campaigns on ways to counteract stigmatisation of mental illness.…

Considering the insufficient amount of class time, it is reasonable to devise a complementary means of learning words to help learners and teachers to take advantage of technological initiatives. Therefore, in this study text-message vocabulary learning was hypothesized to be a potential way to help EFL learners consolidate their vocabulary knowledge. To fulfill the purpose of the study, 35 female students in three classes at the low intermediate level at Sadra institute in Mashad participated in the study. They received 10 unknown vocabularies on the paper and 10 questions, and 10 inspirational quotes through SMS messages during three weeks. Four tests were utilized, three tests during three weeks of the study and one test after a-10-day interval, in order to investigate the impact of text-messaging and paper-and-pencil on participants vocabulary learning and retaining. The results showed that language learners learned and retained more vocabularies texted to them. As far the concern of the researcher, this study is the first of its kind to explore the dry fish consumption behavior in Bangladesh. The general purpose of this study is to apply the general framework of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), explain attitudes, intention and dry fish consumption in Chittagong city and to extend the traditional TPB-model with some additional variables; perceived risk, knowledge, price and cost. The findings showed that attitude, norms and procedural knowledge emerge as the key determinants of intention, while intention, attitude, norms and perceived risk effect on the consumption frequency. PBC, price and cost had no significant effect on intention and dry fish consumption. Perceived quality is found as the most important attribute to forming consumers attitude towards dry fish consumption.
