In doing so it analy…zes the relationship between endogenous development and indigenous models of schooling. It attempts a comparative case-study analysis of two indigenous models of schooling in former colonies: Fe y Alegría of Venezuela and Servol of Trinidad and Tobago. These models are studied because they reflect local, cultural, social, and economic conditions. Attention is paid to community involvement, indigenous ideas about curriculum and programming, the link between education and work, and the link between local epistemologies and education outcomes. The study involves qualitative methods of analysis with particular emphasis on ethnographic methods. Documentary analysis is used to complement field research and participatory observation.

An issue however arises as to whether the measure of compensation under the Act is the loss in Total Economic Value of the affected environmental asset or is instead the cost of remediation or replacing the asset. This book approaches this issue by a comparative analysis between the relevant provisions of the Act and the provisions of legislation in other jurisdictions including the United States and the United Kingdom. The legislative provisions were analysed in the context of contemporary literature on environmental economics methodologies and taking into account the experience of various courts in applying similar legislation. The paper concludes that diminution of Total Economic Value is the correct measure of compensation under the EM Act, 2000 but identifies several weaknesses and gaps in the legislative regime that should be addressed by amendment and the development of appropriate policies. 116 pp. Englisch.

External economy of Ukraine is an issue of high interest of economists because Ukraine takes one of the first places in the world regarding the rate of ration of fo…reign-trade to GNP. The reasons for diversification of Ukrainian trade are quite clear. Ukraine will be less sensitive to the shocks on the world markets of products in case of more diversified trade. So export diversification decreases the risks from the unstable demand of the trade partners. This paper uses the recent developments in the international trade theory that considers the fact that some firms export, some do not to investigate the pattern of export diversification. Using a gravity model the highly disaggregated trade data in the period from 2001 to 2007 was analyzed. It was found that intensive margin is the most important share of the trade growth. As for extensive margin we can conclude that geographical extensive margin is more important than product extensive for the growth of export. Signing free trade agreement increases the probability to diversify. 48 pp. Englisch.

Comparing the cases of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan the research finds that role of resources does not play the assumed crucial role for the ruling elites to stay in power. The ability of the ruling clan to negotiate clan pacts and keep them stable, balancing and respecting other pact members, is the main explanatory factor contributing to regime durability in the cases researched. 60 pp. Englisch.

Frequency separation is necessary to avoid interference by other transmitters to the signal received from the wan…ted transmitter at the reception points. Unnecessary separation causes an excess requirement for spectrum. Good assignments minimise interference and the spectrum required. Some different variations of the problem are reviewed in this book. We mainly consider the 'Fixed Spectrum Problem', where there is a fixed available spectrum of frequencies and the aim is to minimise interference. For this problem we analise the 'Binary Constraints Model', where only interference from a single transmitter at a time is considered, and the more realistic 'Multiple Interference Model', where interferences from more than one transmitter are considered at the same moment. In particular, we analyse some Integer Programming formulation for the binary constraints model to understand whether they can be suitable for developing lower bounds. They are specified by a sparse parity check matrix containing mostly 0s and relatively few 1s. In this book, LDPC codes used… in the IEEE 802.16 standard physical layer were studied. Two novel techniques to enhance the performance of such codes are introduced. In the first technique, a novel parity check matrix for LDPC codes over GF(4) is proposed based on the binary parity check matrix used in the IEEE 802.16 standard . The proposed code has proven to outperform the binary code used in the IEEE 802.16 standard over both AWGN and SUI-3 channel model. In the second technique, high rate LDPC code is used, in a concatenated coding structure, as an outer code, with a convolutional code as an inner code. The performance of such a concatenated codes is compared with the commonly used one utilizing Reed-Solomon codes over the standard SUI-3 channel model, and show better performance. 88 pp. Englisch.

To quantify these differences, populations in c…oastal, sand hills, and serpentine soils were compared. Phenotypic data were collected from the field in 1998 and 1999. Molecular analyses and a common garden experiment were also performed. Differences in torus rim width, flower color, flower number, and leaf coloration were examined in both the field and common garden. The sand hills population from both the coastal and the serpentine populations for leaf coloration. Population differentiation occurred among all three sites for at least some of the floral characters examined. In the main result we show that if the multicomplex associated to monomial ideal I has a nice partition then the multicomplex associated to polarized ideal Ip has a nice partition. Fourth and last chapter deals with the regularity of ideals of Borel type. TiC is an extremely hard and light material, with applications like cutting tools, wear parts and resistant coatings. It has been shown experimentally that…TiC0.67 can be produced by mechanically alloying Ti and C powders. The aim of the project is to find a commercially viable option of producing TiC0.67. With this in mind, we try alternate methods like self propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) and high temperature sintering in a controlled furnace atmosphere as options of interest. The precursor is then subjected to X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to check the phase of the advanced material. The second part of this book would focus on producing other precursors of interest such as Ti3AlC2, V2C and VC0.67 using the same methods. The lake has potential economic value not only to the local community but also to…the national economy. The lake wetland habitats are rich in wildlife species. More recently, the lake has been subjected to abrupt changes in its water quality giving the most alarming example amongst the northern Egyptian lakes as a result of economic development, urbanization and population growth,urban agglomeration and land reclamation schemes. Spherical models were found to be a more successful estimator of water quality condition and were of support to traditional methods as an adequate tool to provide valuable spatial and temporal detailed information about water quality in the Lake. Ordinary Kriging provided good estimations of water quality parameters points in the lake where field sampling was limited and which can be of importance in future sampling schemes. The modeled distribution of water quality was presented in the form of digital maps based on both traditional sample data and variogram models. 120 pp. Englisch.

I have then characterized the E. coli strains with PCR, to determine whether they belong to the virulent B2 group. Therefore, defining CICs is crucial for the development of more effective cancer treatments. In this study, the primary goal was to establish an in vivo system to evaluate the aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) enzyme activity based enrichment for CIC by using ALDEFLUOR-cell staining system. We have functionally tested our hypothesis using an immunodeficient mouse model to assay for enriched CIC tumor formation. Overall, our results indicate that ALDEFLUOR based sorting has the potential to enrich for CICs, which would benefit and be applied in clinical use for the diagnosis, prognosis and even more profound implications for the treatment of cancer, as it is these CICs that must be targeted to achieve cure. 72 pp. Englisch.

When q = -1, on the other hand, one gets the difference in cardinalities between those members of a set having an even value for some statistic (on the set) with those members having an odd value. The current text provides a systematic study of the case q = -1, giving both algebraic and combinatorial treatments. For the latter, appropriate sign-reversing involutions are defined on the associated class of discrete structures. Among the structures studied are permutations, binary sequences, Laguerre configurations, derangements, Catalan words, and finite set partitions. As a consequence of our results, we obtain bijective proofs of congruences involving Stirling, Bell, and Catalan numbers.
