This study revealed several key problems including: data transfer gaps caused by cell reselection, bandwidth fluctuation caused by either signal quality or cell load, streaming client buffer underflow and limited capability of the streaming client to report these problems to the streaming server. Novel solutions to these problems are proposed in this thesis. In addition to these service issues, this thesis evaluated subjective quality thresholds of lip synchronization and video. It is equally important, compared to technical improvements, to understand whether the improvement give subjective benefits. It is a nonlinear diffusion equation which was derived under the Dupuit assumption of essentially horizontal flows. There are multiple usages… of the Boussinesq equation in baseflow studies, catchment hydrology and agricultural drainage problems as well as in other applications. Solutions of the Boussinesq equation can propagate with a finite speed, unlike solutions to the linear diffusion equation. In this work we obtain approximate closed-form solutions to the one-dimensional Boussinesq equation. With similarity transformations a number of initial-boundary-value problems for the Boussinesq equation can be reduced to boundary-value problems for an ordinary differential equation in terms of a similarity variable and scaling function, and we construct approximate polynomial solutions. Our solutions reproduce known exact solutions and compare favorably with the numerical results. Moreover our solutions preserve scaling properties of the problems and require small computational effort. This approach can be extended to the porous medium equation, which generalizes the Boussinesq equation. 100 pp. Englisch.

In this work, we perform some measureme…nts to estimate the energy consumption and execution time of different operations on a Tmote Sky sensor mote. To make the measurements, different configurations are explored and the best one is set up to get precise data. For the transceiver, we discover the overhead of channel acquisition, header and footer of data frame, and transfer reliability during packet transmission. Using this data, we set up a linear equation to estimate the power consumed during every packet transmission. We then input this per-packet power consumption in a mathematical model which estimates the lower and upper bounds of routings in the network. We also categorize different simulators currently available in order to propose the function and structure of a new potential simulator. We measure energy consumptions in different power states of the microcontroller and also compute the energy and time needed to read/write data from/to the external flash memory of Tmote Sky. 60 pp. Englisch.

This paper studies these decisions in an aerospace company, which its finished product has a long production and suppl…y cycles with a high cost, what demands that the time of this recovery be as short as possible. The non-conform material has different destinies, being recovered through the return to the supplier or authorized workshop, or still to be destroyed. This paper uses the knowledge of the Reverse Logistics as a support for that recovery decision, however under the customer s point of view and not of the supplier as most of the literature presents. A lot of times, the cost of that recovery is much larger than the one of a new acquisition and in that specific type of industry 95% of the bought material is imported turning the reverse logistics still more difficult. This work proposes the use of a heuristic model, which decides the destiny of the non-conform materials. The parameters for measures of acting of that model are the comparison of data of the report of items recovered by the company studied against the data obtained by the heuristic model. 112 pp. Englisch.
