The Facts of Life Without Any Nonsense and With Illustrations. Written by Peter Mayle. Illustrated by Arthur Robins. Designed by Paul Walter. Published b…y Macmillan London Limited (Papermac imprint), this is the classic UK paperback edition. Copyright 1973 by Peter Mayle; this printing aligns with the 1978+ Macmillan reprints (British Library data and ISBN confirm). 48 pages, large format paperback (approx. 25.5 cm square), full-colour and line illustrations throughout. Condition: Very Good to Near Fine. Clean interior with no writing, no inscriptions, no stamps, no markings. Binding tight and square. Pages bright and fresh. Covers show some light age-related yellowing/toning (typical for 1970s-1980s paper stock) but remain attractive with minimal wear — no tears, no creases, no significant rubbing. Overall an excellent, well-preserved copy of this fragile paperback. About the Author - Peter Mayle (1939-2018): Peter Mayle was a British author who began his career in advertising before becoming a full-time writer. He is best known for his bestselling Provence memoirs such as A Year in Provence (1989) and Toujours Provence, which captured the charm (and frustrations) of French rural life and sold millions worldwide. Before his adult fame, Mayle wrote several witty and groundbreaking children's books, including this one and its companion What's Happening to Me? Where Did I Come From? was revolutionary for its honest, humorous, and non-judgmental approach to explaining human reproduction to children — helping countless families have "the talk" without embarrassment. Mayle passed away in 2018 in Aix-en-Provence, France. About the Illustrator - Arthur Robins: Arthur Robins is a highly regarded British cartoonist and illustrator known for his playful, expressive, and humorous style that appeals to children and adults alike. Born in Wigan, Lancashire, he was inspired by classic British comics (The Beano, The Dandy) and went on to illustrate dozens of children's books. His collaborations include Michael Rosen's Little Rabbit Foo Foo, works with Laurence Anholt, and T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats for Faber. Robins has also created cartoons for The Oldie magazine and designed Royal Mail Christmas stamps. His lively, cartoonish illustrations for Where Did I Come From? — featuring cheeky naked parents, friendly sperm characters, and warm family scenes — perfectly complement Mayle's straightforward yet light-hearted text, making complex topics accessible and fun. This beloved classic explains human sexuality, conception, pregnancy, and birth in a direct, factual, and entertaining way for children (and their parents). It covers love-making, body differences, sperm and egg, womb development, and birth — all with charming illustrations and gentle humour. A worldwide bestseller with millions of copies sold, it remains a go-to resource for families seeking an honest alternative to the "stork story." Nostalgic and culturally significant as one of the first modern sex education books for kids. Perfect for: Collectors of 1970s-1980s children's non-fiction, parents/grandparents looking for the original edition, or fans of Mayle/Robins. A wonderful piece of publishing history. Arthur Robins (illustratore).

Paperback. Condizione: Fair. Discolouration. Crease in front cover. English The Essential Lenny Bruce is a curated collection of writings and performance material from the influential American stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce. The book brings together excerpts from his routines, social commentary, and satirical reflections that cha…llenged censorship, religion, politics, and social norms in mid-20th-century America. It highlights Bruce?s role as a pioneer of modern stand-up comedy, particularly his use of language as a tool for free expression and his confrontations with legal authorities over obscenity laws. The compilation presents both his humor and his more serious critiques of American society, illustrating why he became a controversial yet foundational figure in the history of comedy.
