It follows the career of Richard Boult from his initial officer and flying training at RAFC Cranwell and describes service life in the air and on the ground, tracing the course of trans-sonic and super-sonic jet training. It then provides a vivid picture of the experiences of a typical GD officer serving at Gan in the Indian Ocean and Singapore. Containing constructive criticism of leadership training in the RAF, this is one man's view of life and learning in the RAF during challenging and changing times. In addition, it includes a 'tyro's guide' to the basic techniques of flight and flying. His flying years were during the period of the Cold War tensions.
