Aggiungi al carrellohardcover. Condizione: Good. A Catalogue of Paintings in the Collection of Jules S. Bache, Jules S. Bache â" First Edition Publication: New York, Privately Printed (Gilbert T. Washburn & Company), 1929 Formatting: 4to, unpaginated. Condition Report: Good. The binding remains firm and structurally sound in its original dark grey cloth, with the gilt rules and titling to the front board remaining relatively bright, though the spine ends exhibit minor fraying and the rear board shows a few light scuffs and a touch of localised fading at the top edge. The text block edges are untrimmed and heavily toned. Internally, the book is complete and secure, displaying moderate, scattered foxing primarily to the preliminary leaves and margins, while the tissue guards are entirely intact. As a formally withdrawn institutional copy, its grade is mitigated by a gilt shelf mark to the lower spine, a presentation bookplate to the front pastedown with an associated 'Out of Stock' withdrawal stamp, a small library blind-stamp to the foot of the title page, and a small, inked reference stamp to the upper corner of the front free endpaper. Catalogue Note: This is the 1929 privately printed first edition of the catalogue detailing the exceptional art collection of American banker Jules S. Bache. The volume is richly illustrated with a tipped-in colour frontispiece, reproducing Domenico Ghirlandaioâs portrait of Francesco Sassetti and his son, and numerous full-page monochromatic plates, each protected by a titled tissue guard. The provenance of this specific copy is of notable historical interest: the bookplate indicates it was presented to the Liverpool Public Libraries in December 1929 by Messrs. Duveen Bros. (Inc.) of New York. The legendary art dealer Joseph Duveen was the primary architect of Bacheâs collection, famously sourcing many of the Old Master paintings catalogued within these pages. While secondary market copies of this catalogue occasionally surface, instances boasting direct presentation association from Duveen Brothers to a major British institution are scarce, offering a tangible link to the transatlantic art trade of the roaring twenties. Compiled during the golden age of American art acquisition, this lavishly produced catalogue offers a window into one of the most significant private collections of the early twentieth century. Jules S. Bache amassed a stunning array of masterpieces, featuring the works of titans such as Rembrandt, Titian, Velázquez, and Raphael, many of which he would eventually donate to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This privately printed volume serves not only as an important visual record of the paintings exactly as they were held in Bacheâs lifetime, but also as a testament to the immense cultural ambition of the era's great industrialists and financiers. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Good, Vintage. No Dust Jacket. First Thus / Early Edition. Gus Bundy. Short Thoughts. 1958. Rare, privately printed, with no publisher stated. Slim tall-format hardcover in paper-covered boards with a dark cloth spine; 20 pages. A small and uncommon collection of brief poems and reflective verses by August "Gus" Bundy, a Nevada artist, photographer, and poet best known for his photographs of wild horses and the Nevada landscape. The University of Nevada, Reno preserves Bundy's papers, including copies or materials relating to Short Thoughts from both 1957 and 1958, confirming the work as part of his documented literary output. The poems are compact, contemplative observations on nature, humility, perception, human experience, and the relationship between the ordinary and the profound. Subjects visible in this copy include pine trees, grass, redwoods, rain pools, mountains, clouds, fog, and spiritual reflection. The volume is dedicated "To those who can reach out-And yet hold hands to warm." Very Good interior with clean, firmly readable pages; the exterior boards show age-related rubbing, spotting, discoloration, edge wear, and small chips or losses along the upper edge and corners. No dust jacket. The binding remains sound and the book presents well as a distinctive example of mid-century Nevada literary and artistic culture. Bundy's archival papers are held by the University of Nevada, Reno, where he is described as a Nevada artist and photographer particularly associated with wild-horse imagery. An appealing acquisition for collectors of Nevada authors, Western poetry, regional literature, privately printed books, photographic history, and small-press verse. It would make a thoughtful and unusual gift for a poetry reader, Nevada historian, collector of Western art and literature, or for yourself. Book.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Broadside. Single leaf measuring 5" x 8" printed on recto only. Near fine. Joseph Richard Winters was an African-American and Native American poet, abolitionist, and inventor from Leesburg, Virginia. His father, a bricklayer, was African-American and his mother was Shawnee(his maternal grandmother was an herbalist known as the "Indian Doctor Woman"). Winters moved to Pennsylvania in 1840, where he worked as a farmer and mechanic. He is credited with three different patents for fire escape ladders between 1878 and 1882. He was active in the Underground Railroad and wrote poems with political and racial themes. This is a 36-line poem meant as a campaign song for William Jennings Bryan in his race against incumbent President William McKinley. Winters stresses that Bryan represents equality and opposition to the trusts. Winters was the author of at least two other known broadsides. *OCLC* locates six copies.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. 254 pages, 8vo. Very Scarce. From the personal library of the very influential and high-ranking Freemason Thomas H. Caswell. SIGNED and inscribed by the author Albert Pike to Caswell on second page leaf, thus: "To Bro. Thomas H. Caswell, with very kind regards and good wishes of Albert Pike. Dec. 25, 1882". Given the date, this volume appears to have been a Christmas present from Pike to Caswell. Thomas H. Caswell, at the time of his death in San Francisco in the year 1900, was the highest ranking Freemason in the world, outranking even the British Royalty. In October 1895, Caswell was elected Grand Commander of the Mother Supreme Council of the World, making him the highest mason in the world and holder of one of the three golden keys which open the Ark of the Covenant. He held the key to the Southern Judiciary. Upon his death, the Ark had to be sealed up until a successor could be nominated. Bound in dark brown leather boards with two green leather title boxes along spine, gilt lettering and tooling along spine with five raised bands, ornate gilt border design on front and rear covers, full gilt page edges, marbled inside covers and free endpapers. Minor shelfwear: light scuffing along edges and cover boards, spine hinges appear to have been reinforced with binding tape. Otherwise, volume is tightly bound, no marks.
