With a List of the Graduates. Baltimore: Printed by Sands & Mills. 1852. In fair condition. Boards are bumped and worn at corners. Spine is faded and gilt work is faint. Pamphlet 1's title page exhibits moderate to heavy foxing/age-staining, possibly from water dampness staining. Gutter between pages 10 & 11 in Pamphlet 2 also exhibit some possibly water or tea dampness staining. Text-block remains legible. Binding intact. Please see photos. William Pinkney (1764 - 1822) was fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. He attended St. John s College, Annapolis, from which he graduated at the age of 17. In 1831 entered Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey to study for the ministry. He became rector of St. Matthew s Episcopal Church in Hyattsville, Maryland and its chapel of ease Zion Parish. During the American Civil War, Bishop William Rollinson Whittingham, who had convinced Rev. Pinkney to accept the Ascension position just before the war, reprimanded the southern-sympathizing priest for failing to say prater for President Lincoln , and instituted ecclesiastical proceedings against him (which failed). Jones was a graphic designer, art director for Columbia Records from 1945 to 1953, then for RCA Victor - he commissioned early work in this field from Andy Warhol, who is among the friends featured here. The introductory text is in the form of an apology for 'my inept efforts'.
