Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 12mo. [4], 96pp. [Continuously paginated, vol. II with half-title]. In modern wraps with label on front cover. Leaves toned and foxed throughout. Unlike other editions, this edition does not call for illustrations. Good. Relatively unknown today, Elizabeth Helme was a popular and prolific novelist in her time; she was also a translator, travel writer and educational author. The history of Louisa, the lovely orphan was her first and most popular novel, was published anonymously in London, 1787. It appears that the first American was printed in 1795 in Wilmington, [Del.], called the 8th edition and this 9th edition is the first Boston printing of the novel. The first New York edition appeared in 1800. Evans 33867.
