Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: As New. R Steer (illustratore). ## Tufted Ducks in a Royal Park by Eric Gillham ## ## THIS BOOK: Classified as VERY GOOD. The 1951 edition. First published in 1951, A hardcover copy, the dust jacket is in colour with a matt finish. Some ageing, of course. Minor bumping. There are previous owners' inscriptions on the inside of the cover. The paper used is of good quality, so no foxing, which is good as this book is about fowls.## ## Just over three centuries ago, King Charles Il created Duck Island in St. James's Park to accommodate most of his ornamental waterfowl and house the duck decoy, which provided birds for his table.## ## The Tufted Duck was one of the species then cared for by His Majesty's Bird Keeper, and today it is the commonest diving bird among this lovely Royal Park's colourful waterfowl. Along with various pinioned and free-flying ducks, geese and swans, many wild tufted nests on Duck Island continue to be watched by an official Bird Keeper. This small island, still "The Place of the Fowle", is innermost London's most important breeding sanctuary for up to 150 pairs of land and aquatic wild birds, including Great Crested and Little in recent years Grebes. ## ## This book details the life story of Tufted Ducks in the heart of London, telling of their courtship, pairing, nesting, brood rearing, feeding and other behaviour studied by Eric Gillham over thirty-two years in St. James's ? a park which everyone can enjoy. ## ## It tells, too, of the Tufted Duck's enemies and benefactors. Among the latter is the London Police, who have saved several little ducklings from death through tufted mothers leading their broods along some of Westminster's busiest thoroughfares. ## ## In the 1960s, a proportion of tufted ducklings reared in the Park were ringed with coloured plastic leg bands, enabling them to be recognised individually. This book gives the life history of some of these known birds for up to a decade. ## ## INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me for a shipping quotation. ##. No Author signature.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Dudnikova, Lisa (illustratore). 1st Edition. pp100, PB, 150x230mm This is a collection of essays by Veronica Toumanova, a noted and inspiring teacher of Argentine Tango who is based in Paris but teaches all over Europe. Trained in ballet and modern dance Veronica discovered tango while living in the Netherlands and, as she puts it in one of her essays, "Why tango changes your life", fell into the dance unintentionally but then thought "This is what I have been looking for my whole life so far." Veronica goes behind the surface, considering movement, the anatomy of the body, psychology and spirituality when teaching and in consequence has developed a reputation for truly teaching people how to dance tango. The essays in the book covers both technical matters to do with dance and the psychology of learning. She talks about why learning to dance tango well may have less to do with tango than one thinks and about why different teachers take different approaches and why different learners advance and benefit in different ways. This is very far from being a teaching manual for tango or for dance but is, rather, a series of well-considered musings on aspects of dancing tango well which can too often be overlooked. It's recommended for anyone with a genuine interested in exploring tango not only as a seductive dance but as an important part of life, for anyone, in short, who has become bewitched by tango. NOTE: on account of the size and weight of this books the postage cost will be LESS than the amount (which must be) shown and will be advised before an order is confirmed.
