It was an extraordinary occasion…for scientists from all over the world to meet and discuss new developments in these overlapping fields. Several sessions were dedicated to the molecular aspects of Vitamin B6 and Quinone dependent enzymes, as well as to the cellular, biomedical and nutritional aspects. The congress was inaugurated by Paolo Fasella in his capacity as General Director of Science, Research and Development of the Commission of the European Communities, with an overview on Intemational Scientific Collaboration. The scientific sessions started with a talk on the History of Vitamin B6 given by David Metzler who at the very last minute presented Esmond Snell's paper adding some personal remarks. Unfortunately, both Esmond Snell and Alton Meister had to unexpectedly cancel the trip to Capri. These proceedings contain the papers presented as oral contributions and a few selected poster presentations. The limited number of pages meant we could not publish many interesting poster presentations, including those selected for the three lively and exciting evening poster discussion sessions called by the organizers 'Vino, taralli and . discussion'. 366 pp. Englisch.

Besides forming a highly important collection of tools, e.g. for proving analytic or stochastic theorems or for deriving error estimates in numerical mathematics,… they constitute a challenging research field of their own. Inequalities also appear directly in mathematical models for applications in science, engineering, and economics. This edited volume covers divers aspects of this fascinating field. It addresses classical inequalities related to means or to convexity as well as inequalities arising in the field of ordinary and partial differential equations, like Sobolev or Hardy-type inequalities, and inequalities occurring in geometrical contexts. Within the last five decades, the late Wolfgang Walter has made great contributions to the field of inequalities. His book on differential and integral inequalities was a real breakthrough in the 1970's and has generated a vast variety of further research in this field. He also organized six of the seven 'General Inequalities' Conferences held at Oberwolfach between 1976 and 1995, and co-edited their proceedings. He participated as an honorary member of the Scientific Committee in the 'General Inequalities 8' conference in Hungary. As a recognition of his great achievements, this volume is dedicated to Wolfgang Walter's memory. The 'General Inequalities' meetings found their continuation in the 'Conferences on Inequalities and Applications' which, so far, have been held twice in Hungary. This volume contains selected contributions of participants of the second conference which took place in Hajdúszoboszló in September 2010, as well as additional articles written upon invitation. Focal points during the meeting were eigenvalue problems in the engineering sciences and in industry, methods for calculating bounds for eigenvalues, and matrix eigenvalue problems. Central to the lectures on eigenvalue problems pertinent to the engineering sciences and industry were oscillation and stability problems; for these, numerical treatment drew mainly on finite element methods in the lectures as well as in the ensuing discus sions, questions concerning the quality of the mathematical models applied, and the choice of appropriate finite elements, were given wide latitude. Other lectures addressed new research results in the calculation of (primarly lower) bounds for eigenvalues. The ramifications of these results were illustrated by numerous examples taken from fields in the engineering sciences and physics. The extensive use of finite-element methods (made possible in the wake of major computer advances) has led to new research in matrix eigenvalue problems, and several lectures reported on results which have been achieved in this area. 246 pp. Deutsch.
