In späteren Jahren sind derartige Möglichkeiten zur naturwissenschaftlichen Nach prüfung der Wirkung von diätetischen Behandlungskonzepten nur recht selten ge sucht und genutzt worden. In den folgenden Jahren wurden viele Erfahrungen mit dem Programm gesammelt, einmal durch die Installierung eines regelmaBigen Batch-Betriebs fur studentische Ubungen mit SPICE /0.2/, zum anderen durch das Einbringen des Programms in das Forschungsprojekt 'Computer-unterstutzter Unterricht' (CUU), das vom Bundesministerium fur Forschung und Technologie gefordert wurde. Schon damals' entstand eine Anleitung fur das Programm SPICE in deutscher Sprache mit Programmbeispielen /0.3/, die von den Studenten dankbar angenommen wurde, da das knappe englische Manual den Einstieg in das Progrmm nicht gerade leicht machte. Heute lauft SPICE (Version 2G.6) auf unserem Rechner VAX 11/780 im Dialogbetrieb. Berichte über die Wiederherstellung ihrer Funktion nach Verletzung oder verstümmelnden Erkrankungen durchziehen die Geschichte der Medizin von Anbeginn. Nach einem längeren Studienaufenthalt an den fiihrenden Replantationszentren Australiens, insbesondere bei O'Brien am St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne widmete er sich mit besonderer Liebe zum Detail der Subspezialität mikrovasculäre Chirurgie. Die Erfahrungen der ersten 6 Jahre Tätigkeit auf diesem Gebiet hat er im klinischen Teil zusammengefaßt. Geprägt von der Schule Hegemanns, dem die Indikation zur Opera tion immer ganz besonders am Herzen lag, hielt Herr Landsleitner sich an dessen Maxime: ,Man darf nicht alles operieren, was man operieren kann', oder wie Brug, vom selben Chirurgengeblüt, es später formulierte: 'Die Indikation wird nicht bestimmt von dem mit modernsten Mitteln technisch Machbaren, sondern vom funktionell Sinnvollen und mensch lich Zumutbarem'.
