LOPSTR started in 1991 as a workshop on logic program synthesis and transformation, but later it broadened its scope to logic-based program dev…elopment in general, that is, program development in computational logic, and hence the title of this volume. The motivating force behind LOPSTR has been the belief that declarative paradigms such as logic programming are better suited to program development tasks than traditional non-declarative ones such as the imperative paradigm. Speci cation, synthesis, transformation or specialization, analysis, debugging and veri cation can all be given logical foundations, thus providing a unifying framework for the whole development process. In the past 10 years or so, such a theoretical framework has indeed begun to emerge. Even tools have been implemented for analysis, veri cation and speci- ization. However,itisfairtosaythatsofarthefocushaslargelybeenonprogrammi- in-the-small. So the future challenge is to apply or extend these techniques to programming-in-the-large, in order to tackle software engineering in the real world. It's tied up with the notion of storyte…lling as an effective means for the communication of knowledge and social values since the existence of humankind. It also builds a bridge between current academic trends investigating and formalizing computer games, and developments towards the experience-based design of human-media interaction in general. In Darmstadt, a first national workshop on Digital Storytelling was organized by ZGDV e.V. in 2000, which at that time gave an impression about the breadth of this new research field for computer graphics (DISTEL 2000). An international follow-up was planned: the 1st International Conference on Technologies for Interactive Digital Storytelling and Entertainment (TIDSE 2003). Taking place in March 2003, it showed a more focussed range of research specifically on concepts and first pro- types for automated storytelling and autonomous characters, including modelling of emotions and the user experience. At TIDSE 2004, an established and still-growing community of researchers ga- ered together to exchange results and visions. This confirms the construction of a series of European conferences on the topic - together with the International Conf- ence on Virtual Storytelling, ICVS (conducted in 2001 and 2003 in France) - which will be further cultivated. 328 pp. Englisch.

'Privacy in Statistical Databases2004' (PSD2004) was the nal conference of the CASC project ('Computational Aspects of Statistical Con dentiality', IST-2000-25069). PSD2004 is in the style of the following conferences: 'Stat- tical Data Protection', held in Lisbon in 1998 and with proceedings published by the O ce of O cial Publications of the EC, and also the AMRADS project SDC Workshop, held in Luxemburg in 2001 and with proceedings published by Springer-Verlag, as LNCS Vol. 2316. Since the publication of the paper 'Constraint… Query Languages' by Kan- lakis, Kuper and Revesz in 1990, the last decade has seen a growing interest in constraint database theory, query evaluation, and applications, re ected in a variety of conferences, journals, and books. Constraint databases have proven to be extremely exible and adoptable in environments that relational database systems cannot serve well, such as geographic information systems and bioinf- matics. This symposium brought together people from several diverse areas all c- tributing to the practice and the application of constraint databases. It was a continuation and extension of previous workshops held in Friedrichshafen, G- many (1995), Cambridge, USA (1996), Delphi, Greece (1997), and Seattle, USA (1998) as well as of the work in the comprehensive volume 'Constraint Data- ses' edited by G. Declarative languages have been studied since the inception of computer science, and continue to be a vibrant subject of investigation today due to their applicability in current application domains such as bioinformatics, network con guration, the Semantic Web, telecommunications software, etc. The 6th PADL Symposium was held in Dallas, Texas on June 18-19, 2004, and was co-located with the Compulog-Americas Summer School on Compu- tional Logic. From the submitted papers, the program committee selected 15 for presentation at the symposium based upon three written reviews for each paper, which were provided by the members of the program committee and additional referees. Two invited talks were presented at the conference. The rst was given by Paul Hudak (Yale University) on 'An Algebraic Theory of Polymorphic T- poral Media. ' The second invited talk was given by Andrew Fall (Dowlland Technologies and Simon Fraser University) on 'Supporting Decisions in C- plex, Uncertain Domains with Declarative Languages. INLG is the leading international conference in the eld of natural language generation. It provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of original research on all aspects of the generation of language, including psychological modelling of human language production as well as computational approaches to the automatic generation of language. This volume includes a paper by the keynote speaker, Ardi Roelofs of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholingu- tics and the F. C. Donders Centre for CognitiveNeuroimaging,18 regular papers reportingthelatestresearchresultsanddirections,and4studentpapersdescr- ing doctoral work in progress. These papers reveal a particular concentration of current research e ort on statistical and machine learning methods, on referring expressions, and on variation in surface realisation.
