The data clarify the route by which radioactive materials entered agricultural products and their movement among different components (e.g., soil, water, and trees) within an environmental system (e.g., forests). The book consists of various topics, including radioactivity inspection of food products; decontamination trials for rice and livestock production; the state of contamination in wild animals and birds, trees, mushrooms, and timber; the dynamics of radioactivity distribution in mountain and paddy fields; damage incurred by the forestry and fishery industries; and the change in consumers' minds. The last chapter introduces a real-time radioisotope imaging system, the forefront technique to visualize actual movement of cesium in soil and in plants. This is the only book to provide systematic data about the actual change of radioactivity, and thus is of great value for all researchers who wish to understand the effect of radioactive fallout on agriculture. Osteosarcoma was a miserable disease for adolescents and young adults until the early 1970s, with a survival rate that was less than 10-15% even after amputation for affected limbs because of the progression of pulmonary metastasis. With the development of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for osteosarcoma, including high-dose methotrexate, doxorubicin, cisplatin, and ifosfamide during the late 1970s and the 1980s, however, the prognosis has dramatically improved. Limb-salvage surgery for patients with extremity osteosarcoma is now a gold-standard surgical procedure for more than 90% of patients with localized disease. Additionally, aggressive pulmonary metastasectomy for patients with lung metastasis from osteosarcoma has contributed to improvement of their survival. More recently, carbon-ion radiotherapy has also been introduced for patients with unresectable osteosarcoma of the trunk, as in the spine and pelvis. In this volume the author provides valuable descriptions of an important new treatment modality for a multidisciplinary approach for osteosarcoma patients. 284 pp. Englisch.

Here, high-speed AFM was employed to observe the dynamic movements of single molecules. Compared to a traditional single-molecule analysis method, such as fluorescence spectroscopy or electron microscopy, high-speed AFM makes possible the real-time observation of molecule behaviors. DNA nanostructures were designed and assembled as scaffolds to incorporate interested biomolecules. The observations were carried out under robust conditions without complicated pretreatment. Moreover, the photoresponsive molecules were successfully assembled into around 100 nm-sized DNA nanostructures. The assembly/disassembly of nanostructures can be regulated reversibly by photoirradiation. This book explains how DNA origami has gradually become a useful tool for the investigation of biochemical interactions in defined nanospace. It also shows the possibility of DNA nanostructures acting as nanodevices for application in biological systems, serving as a good introduction to basic DNA nanotechnology. 92 pp. Englisch.
