Linking theories from Fredric Jameson and George Ritzer, this book presents the argument that our present society is going through a process of i-zation in which (1) capitalism dominates not only our outer, social lives (through, for example, global capitalism) but also our inner, personal lives, through its expansion in the digital world, facilitated by various i-technology applications; (2) the McDonaldization process has now been normalized; and (3) religiosity has been standardized. Reviewing the new inequalities present in this i-society, the book considers their impact on Jurgen Habermas's project of post-secularism, and appraises the roles that various religions may have in supporting and/or countering this process. It concludes by arguing that Habermas's post-secular project will occur but that, paradoxically, the religious message(s) will be instrumentalized for capitalist purposes. 260 pp. Englisch.

It presents semi-analytical models for lateral electric field, length of velocity saturation region (LVSR),… ionization coefficient ( ), and breakdown voltage (BV) of single and double-gate graphene nanoribbon field effect transistors (GNRFETs). The application of Gauss's law at drain and source regions is employed in order to derive surface potential and lateral electric field equations. LVSR is then calculated as a solution of surface potential at saturation condition. The ionization coefficient is modelled and calculated by deriving equations for probability of collisions in ballistic and drift modes based on the lucky drift theory of ionization. The threshold energy of ionization is computed using simulation and an empirical equation is derived semi-analytically. Lastly avalanche breakdown condition is employed to calculate the lateral BV. On the basis of this, simple analytical and semi-analytical models are proposed for the LVSR and BV, which could be used in the design and optimization of semiconductor devices and sensors. The proposed equations are used to examine BV at different channel lengths, supply voltages, oxide thickness, GNR widths, and gate voltages. Simulation results show that the operating voltage of FETs could be as low as 0.25 V in order to prevent breakdown. However, after optimization, it can go as high as 1.5 V. This work is useful for researchers working in the area of graphene nanoribbon-based transistors. 96 pp. Englisch.

Further, it discusses a cost-aware capacity provisioning algorithm that not only allows the service capacity of a CDN's server clusters in numerous ISPs to be dynamically planned, but also means that the overall operating cost, including both the energy consumptions and the cross-ISP traffics, can be further optimized. In addition it uses the workload derived from real-world measurement and also implements real values of the actual power and bandwidth prices to evaluate the capacity provisioning algorithm, showing that it can significantly reduce the overall operating cost of a video streaming CDN, and effectively avoid frequent server switches. Lastly, the book outlines a number of potential research directions regarding cost-aware content delivery. The book argues that much of what is considered 'children and young people's participation' today is part of a wider neoliberal project that emphasises an ideal young citizen who is responsible and rational while simultaneously downplaying the role of systemic inequality and potentially reinforcing rather than overcoming children and young people's subjugation. Yet the book also moves beyond mere critique and offers suggestive ways to broaden our understanding of children and young people's participation by drawing on 15 international examples of empirical research from around the world, including the Philippines, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, North America, Finland, South Africa, Australia and Latin America. Before concentrating on the Indian context, it examines the participation rates of va…rious countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Not unexpectedly, the study shows that the rate is significantly lower for females than for males in this region. The rural-urban differentials are more pronounced and the inter-state variations are more sizable among females than males. Even in large cities, the female labour market participation is lower than that in the rural areas despite higher levels of education. However, in terms of inter-spatial (rural/urban/city) variations, the impact of infrastructure, education, health and urbanization on the labour force participation of both genders is quite distinct. On the whole, the study reinforces the stance that women's participation in productive activities has a doubly positive impact; it not only raises the household income, but also contributes to the wellbeing of the household. These findings are important from a policy perspective, as different infrastructure variables are confirmed to improve both participation and labour productivity.
