In particular…, the book focuses on the properties of approximate solutions which are independent of the length of the interval, for all sufficiently large intervals; these results apply to the so-called turnpike property of the optimal control problems. By encompassing the so-called turnpike property the approximate solutions of the problemsare determined primarily by the objective function and are fundamentally independent of the choice of interval and endpoint conditions, except in regions close to the endpoints. This bookalso explores the turnpike phenomenon for two large classes of autonomous optimal control problems. It is illustrated that the turnpike phenomenon is stable for an optimal control problem if the corresponding infinite horizon optimal control problem possesses an asymptotic turnpike property. If an optimal control problem belonging to the first class possesses the turnpike property, then the turnpike is a singleton (unit set). The stability of the turnpike property under small perturbations of an objective function and of a constraint map is established. For the second class of problems where the turnpike phenomenon is not necessarily a singleton the stability of the turnpike property under small perturbations of an objective function is established. Case studies illustrate MUS in selected urban and rural contexts. Each case study breaks out the challenges, policy framework, benefits, benchmarks, lessons learned (success and failures) and potential next steps.The contributors consider the main options for applying the Multiple-Use Water Services (MUS) paradigm, breaking down its components and offering cost-benefit analyses along with challenges and considerations for both the short and long term. Also discussed are methods by which mutual interactions of water infrastructure and vegetated areas are taken into account in the synergy of spatial planning and optimised modelling of ecosystems¿ performance indicators. This method of planning should make future developments cheaper to build; their users will pay lower utility bills for water, energy and heating. There is growing interest in strategies for energy harvesting that use a variety of existing and well-known materials in new morphologies or architectures. A key change of morphology to enable new functionality is the nanostructuring of a material. One area of particular interest is self-powered devices based on portable energy harvesting. The charging of personal electronic equipment and other small-scale electronic devices such as sensors is a highly demanding environment that requires innovative solutions. The output of these so-called nanogenerators is explained in terms of the requirements for self-powered applications. This part of the book is an update of the Signorini problem with nonlocal Coulomb friction, a problem little studied and with few results in the literature. Also, in the quasi-static case, a control problem governed by a bilateral contact problem is studied.
