Ms. Kil lion and Ms. Powell try to describe what an Oncology Nurse is, rather than what one does. Attorneys Reese and Price present a very practical summa tion of issues which face the cancer patient, and their chapter could easily be copied and offered to one's patients; furthermore, this chapter gives direc tion to the physician who is frequently called upon for advice regarding issues which lie entirely outside his/her formal training. Excellent reviews on more' medical' subjects are here. 'Cancer in the Elderly' should provoke oncologists to re-examine their approach to the geriatric patient.

Cancer Treatment and Research is a series of authoritative volumes which aim to meet this need. It is an attempt to establish a critical mass of oncology literature covering virtually all oncology topics, revised frequently to keep the coverage up to date, easily available on a single library shelf or by a single personal subscription. We have approached the problem in the following fashion. First, by di viding the oncology literature into specific subdivisions such as lung cancer, genitourinary cancer, pediatric oncology, etc. Second, by asking eminent authorities in each of these areas to edit a volume on the specific topic on an annual or biannual basis. Each topic and tumor type is covered in a volume appearing frequently and predictably, discussing current diagnosis, staging, markers, all forms of treatment modalities, basic biology, and more.

Chapter 2 gives a reasonably thorough account of all finite subgroups of the orthogonal groups in two and three dimensions. The presentation… is somewhat less formal than in succeeding chapters. For instance, the existence of the icosahedron is accepted as an empirical fact, and no formal proof of existence is included. Throughout most of Chapter 2 we do not distinguish between groups that are 'geo metrically indistinguishable,' that is, conjugate in the orthogonal group. Very little of the material in Chapter 2 is actually required for the sub sequent chapters, but it serves two important purposes: It aids in the development of geometrical insight, and it serves as a source of illustrative examples. There is a discussion offundamental regions in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 provides a correspondence between fundamental reflections and funda mental regions via a discussion of root systems. The actual classification and construction of finite reflection groups takes place in Chapter 5. where we have in part followed the methods of E. Witt and B. L. van der Waerden. Chapter 2 gives a reasonably thorough account of all finite subgroups of the orthogonal groups in two and three dimensions. The presentation is…somewhat less formal than in succeeding chapters. For instance, the existence of the icosahedron is accepted as an empirical fact, and no formal proof of existence is included. Throughout most of Chapter 2 we do not distinguish between groups that are 'geo metrically indistinguishable,' that is, conjugate in the orthogonal group. Very little of the material in Chapter 2 is actually required for the sub sequent chapters, but it serves two important purposes: It aids in the development of geometrical insight, and it serves as a source of illustrative examples. There is a discussion offundamental regions in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 provides a correspondence between fundamental reflections and funda mental regions via a discussion of root systems. The actual classification and construction of finite reflection groups takes place in Chapter 5. where we have in part followed the methods of E. Witt and B. L. van der Waerden. Generators and relations for finite reflection groups are discussed in Chapter 6. The effects of major element defici…encies or excesses on plant health are well known; this is not the case for trace elements. In fact, rapid and reliable analytical methods for determining trace element abundances have only recently become available, and it is to be expected that important new information on trace element levels will be forthcoming. This, however, is only part of the problem because other factors such as element speciation, uptake and transmission may be more significant than total concentration. The pathways of elements from crops to animals are relatively well defined, but the aetiology of diseases attributable to elemental inadequacies or excesses is generally quite complex. Nevertheless, there is good evidence for diseases in livestock in the British Isles induced by deficiencies of Cu, Se and Co and Mo excess. On a world scale there is also convincing data on the effect of Na, P and I deficiencies and F excess on animal health. What is generally lacking, however, is adequate interaction between geochemists and biochemists, veterinary scientists and other concerned with animal health. Interpretation of geochemical data is complex as are connections between elemental abundances and the health of animals. 156 pp. Englisch.
