Neuware - WAVE TURBULENCE is a state of a system of many simultaneously excited and interacting waves characterized by an energy distribution which is not in any sense close to thermodynamic equilibrium. Such situations in a choppy sea, in a hot plasma, in dielectrics under arise, for example, a pow…erful laser beam, in magnets placed in a strong microwave field, etc. Among the great variety of physical situations in which wave turbulence arises, it is possible to select two large limiting groups which allow a detailed analysis. The first is fully developed wave turbulence arising when energy pumping and dissipation have essentially different space scales. In this case there is a wide power spectrum of turbulence. This type of turbulence is described in detail e. g. in Zakharov et al. 1 In the second limiting case the scales in which energy pumping and dissipation occur are the same. As a rule, in this case a narrow, almost singular spectrum of turbulence appears which is concentrated near surfaces, curves or even points in k-space. One of the most important, widely investigated and instructive examples of this kind of turbulence is parametric wave turbulence appearing as a result of the evolution of a parametric instability of waves in media under strong external periodic modulation (laser beam, microwave electromagnetic field, etc. ). The present book deals with parametric wave turbulence.

Da hier U (g) zur Algebra der polynomialen Funktionen auf dem Dualraum g von 9 isomorph ist, werden diese maximalen Ideale nach dem schwachen Nullstellensatz durch die Punkte von g klassifiziert. Jede irreduzible Darstellung von gist demnach eindimensional, jede Linearform auf 9 legt soleh eine Darstellung fest. Fur andere Lie-Algebren sind die Verhiiltnisse viel komplizierter. 1st 9 zum Beispiel einfach, so ist bisher nur fUr g=Glz eine Klassifikation der irreduzib len Darstellungen bekannt (vorgelegt von R Block), die jedoch weit davon ent femt ist, iihnlich explizit wie die im kommutativen Fall zu sein. Fur noch gro Bere Lie-Algebren scheint selbst eine solehe Klassifikation nicht erreichbar zu sein. Es scheint daher sinnvoll, zuniichst ein einfacheres Problem zu losen, das im kommutativen Fall mit dem alten zusammenfiillt. Dies ist die Untersuchung der primitiven Ideale von U(g), das heiBt der Annullatoren in U(g) der einfa chen U(g)-Moduln. Man mag hoffen, daraus auch Informationen uber die moglichen einfachen Moduln zu erhalten.

During the intervening period, the signi ficance of carbon monoxide chemistry has become even more evident. The…oil crisis and the ever-present awareness of the constant depletion of the oil reserves have both contributed to a surge in activity. The fact that coal will once again replace oil in the near future as a feedstock source has been an impetus for new efforts in the field of carbon monoxide chemistry. Moreover, older almost neglected processes such as the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis have become a focal point for new activities. Therefore, the time was ripe to fundamentally revise 'Carbon Monoxide in Organic Synthesis' and to complete its coverage by introducing the chapters 'Homo logation' and 'Carbon Monoxide Hydrogenation'. However, other important sectors of carbon monoxide chemistry such as the con version of synthesis gas to methanol or higher alcohols were excluded. These are treated in the book 'Chemierohstoffe aus Kohle', which devotes considerable attention to these syntheses. I would like to thank Drs. Owing to the peculiar water regime, paddy soils possess quite different properties physically, chemically and biologically as compared with those of upland soils. Such properties have a conspicuous effect on fertility and management practice of paddy field. For the purpose of summing up the past work and opening up new prospects, a 'Symposium on Paddy Soils' was organized under the auspices of Academia Sinica, held on October 19-24, 1980 in Nanjing, which was followed by a seven-day paddy soil excursion in the lower Changjiang Delta. In addition to 120 Chinese soil scientists, 56 guests coming from America, Asia, Europe and Oceania attended the symposium on invitation. A total of 110 papers were presented either orally or by poster. The start of the preparation of the 'plantago' book was done by Dr. P. J. M. van der Aart and Dr. H. Lambers but due to their appointment as full professor of the University of Utrecht they were both unable to continue. We are greatly indebted to Van der Aart and Lambers for the groundwork they have laid. The book presents a sample of results obtained over a period of more than 10 years. The reason why opinion about the Swedish welfa…re model has changed is primarily Sweden's financial problems, which are associated with a badly financed and excessively large public sector. It is argued that the size of the budget deficit is a great problem in itself, but also, and perhaps more importantly, that the large public sector has negative effects on the entire economy since it lead to inefficient allocation of resources. A first step in order to solve these problems is to examine how they arose. The questions then are to what extent the large public sector which Sweden has today results from social entitlements which have come into existence since the 1960s, from the maturing of welfare systems decided upon earlier, from unfavourable demographic developments, or from economic stagnation, and how these factors are interlinked. What is quite clear is that Sweden has had very low economic growth during the 1970s and 1980s compared with the preceding period. But so have many other industrial countries, without their having in consequence found themselves in diffi culties as great as Sweden's. However, it is not possible to make a strict separation into problems con cerning atomic and molecular collisions and those related to the usual spec troscopy. This admixture of two disciplines, discussions on the role of photons and on the interaction of external electromagnetic fields with the continuum provided a central motivation for these workshops. The fourth of this series of meetings was held at Cortona between June 16 and 20, 1986. It was attended by about 100 researchers in the field and there were 43 presentations, all having equal time. These talks form the subject matter of this volume. The idea of publishing the proceedings of these meetings is not new. It allows one to have small meetings in which the subject matter can be discussed at length in a lively atmosphere. Instead he came upon a way to double the number of specific DNA modules, a…nd to repeat the process essentially indefinitely. 1 He thought of using two oligonucleotide sequences, oppositely oriented, and a DNA polymerase enzyme, to double the number of DNA targets. Each product would thene become the target for the next reaction, effectively yielding a product which doubled in quantity with each repeated cycle. Like the chain reaction leading to nuclear fission, with each cycle event each initial reactant (neutron or DNA molecule) yields two similar products, each of which can serve as the initial reactant. The invention of this exponentially increasing amplification system quickly became known as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The tremendous sensitivity of PCR ultimately resides in the necessity for each of two specific oligonucleotide annealing reactions to occur at the same time in the proper orientation. The DNA annealing reaction is a very specific reaction. Single genes have been detected by hybridization of a DNA probe to chromosome preparations together with sensitive fluorescence microscopy. This is the equivalent to detecting a gene present in a single copy per cell genome.
