Tourism policy to professionalism. 6. Economics marketing of world tourism. 7. The ecological impacts of ecotourism. 8. The ecotourism ethics. Index. The variability of approaches used to define ecotourism has quite naturally given way to many comprehensive approaches used to understand the term. It was acknowledged that the variety of descriptive terms such as nature travel adventure travel and cultural travel which are largely activity based and also the value laden terms such as responsible alternative and ethical tourism which underscore the need to consider impacts and the consequences of travel. It is felt that nature tourism while not necessarily ecologically sound in principle concentrates more on the motivation and the behaviour of the individual tourist. Conversely ecotourism is much more difficult to attain owing to its overall comprehensiveness. A form of tourism inspired primarily by the natural history of an area including its indigenous cultures. The ecotourist visits relatively undeveloped areas in the spirit of appreciation participation and sensitivity. The ecotourist practices a non consumptive use of wildlife and natural resources and contributes benefiting the conservation of the site. 200 pp.

National Parks man versus wildlife. 11. National Parks future plan and strategy. Index. In 1970 there were only five National Parks in India namely Kanha Bhandavgarh Shivpuri Thadoba and Corbelt. The number of these National Parks has now risen to eighty. The statewise distribution of these parks is as Andhra Pradesh one Arunachal Pradesh two. Assam and Bihar has two National Parks. Goa one and Gujarat four and next Haryana one Himachal Pradesh two and Jammu and Kashmir Karnataka and Kerala four five and three respectively. Wildlife tourism must convey a message. A tourist after visiting the park must return a wiser person. The tourists should also be apprised of the rules and code of conduct to be observed in the park as not to stray from the main park. Noise and alien sounds startle wild animals. Do not blow horns or talk loudly. Treat the park as sanctum sanctorium of nature wear incaspicuous Khaki alive or brown clothing which blend well with natural surroundings and lastly do not pollute the park. While discussing wildlife tourism the mode of transport of tourists inside the National Park should be considered. It has been said more than once that due to habitat destruction and unabated hunting in the past the wildlife in our country has been depleted considerably. The ancient Indian people appreciated and acknowledge the value and importance of wildlife and its habitats. 180 pp.

The presupposition of the sociology of knowledge comes from the public interpretation. We may realize that between this process of self enlightenment which is commensurate with the present time and the sociology of knowledge there is a specific affinity for the sociology of knowledge. Conceived into question relativizes particularises and transcends. This book contains ten chapters. In contemporary discussions the extending independency chains between nations have been variously referred to as the global human circumstance. It is a common place that an important point of departure for the sociological pioneers of the last century and the early years of this century was to insist that economic had to be understood sociologically. 268 pp.

It is widely felt that proper legislative measure enacted and implemented in time can save the Dalit from other caste. The need for dalit protection is an area which has been at the forefront of the social concern during last four decades globally. What is needed is a balance between dalit and law. An integration of the dalit and law is required at the policy planning in the constitutions. The dalit in India is a old as our civilisation and law. The caste based theories from time to time were considered relevant and effective by our society which were the foundation stone in accordance with the socio economic condition of the individuals. The sense of discrimination became an effective instrument which proved dangerous retarding expected progress in our society. This indeed led to the emergence of a few ardent reformers whose sincere efforts were directed to bring about equality by granting socio economic religious and political concessions to the economically weaker sections. The main significant idea is to bring them at par with the outer castes and communities. Undoubtedly some progress in this direction is a glaring phenomenon with the since efforts of Buddha Gandhi B.R. Ambedkar and several other reformers. It is hoped that this book will fulfill the demands of a wider section of our society. The editors are painfully aware of the shortcomings and shall welcome any criticism and suggestions from the readers for improvement in further editions. 328 pp.

They had to bear an insulting and low behaviour in the society. They were used as menials for the lowest type of work and per chance if they happened to refuse to do any kind of work assigned to them they were to get physical punishment. But with the change of time there have been some social societies which have shown much interest and keenness to support the socio economic cause of Dalits by which their upliftment could be a glaring phenomenon. Such social institutions are the Harijan Sewak Samaj and several others who are keen to give Dalits a better status in our society. In the process of completion of this book in a comprehensive way it became essential and academically viable to visit some prominent research institutions to collect the material in order to make it interesting and readable. This book would be useful for social scientists teachers researchers and students in Indian and abroad. 355 pp.

It is aptly said that floods are act of God but acts of man cause flood damage. It is natural for a river to over flow its banks in the event of heavy rainfall in the upper catchments and spill into the flood plains which are basically its domain. It is therefore necessary to suitably manage the floods with a view to reduce the damage potential and property and minimize if not avoid loss to lives of human and livestock it is essential that while planning the embankments suitable steps be taken to ensure drainage of the area into the river through sluices. Floor damage could be avoided to a considerable extent if timely warning is given of an impending flood. It may be stated that in view of the ever increasing flood damages it is necessary to overcome the reluctance to adopt the flood pain zoning measure and appreciate the advantages of planned action in flood plains. 220 pp.

Labour relations decisions should be based on research and planning just as is done with a new product concept before designing manufacturing and marketing it. Labour unions are staffed with members who have a high level of expertise and technical competence. Labour unions spend the necessary funds to research today's problem as well as to plan for the future. The fundamental relationship between the labour and the company is one of push and pull most often in opposite directions even though the company's continued success is essential for both parties. Successful labour relations are not so much a matter of who is right as they are what is right. Management must consider the specific problem and alternative solutions. Such contact can load to the development of mutual understanding and trust are essential factors in a continuing good relationship. 280 pp.

While the rural population worships and falls prostrate before a multitude of Gods and Goddesses derived out of their animistic conception of the universe the cultured educated section of the urban humanity subscribes to the idealistic view of the universe and discusses such categories as the nature of Brahman free will and others. There is another reason why the rural man must be an educated man. Education is also the prerequisite for the study and assimilation of the rich culture which has developed in the contemporary age. Education is essential for the rural people also for the broad social reason that all social relations between citizens are in the modern society governed by the principle of contract and not by status as in the farmer epoch. 282 pp.

There is no doubt that cities are affected by global economic forces but questions can be asked as to what extent their future is immutably determined by these forces and to what extent policies developed locally can have real consequences for cities. Advocates of the structuralist position argue that the local state can have little impact on global flows of business while those arguing for the importance of agency point to examples where local politics have made a real difference to the economic fortunes of a city. The social patterning of cities is also important in understanding the inner city problem. The average tourists is unlikely to be drawn to a city because of its visitor attractions. The aim has been to assess the role of visitor attractions in the development of urban destinations urban policies to deal with these issues have been evolving since the 1960. They have been developed to deal with the economic and social problems which cities face. 228 pp.

It is easy to see how the first three functions relate to an improved profit picture. On the other hand the support that administration provides to the first three functions is often thought of as a necessary evil that diminishes profits. By definition however administration or management is essential in every aspect of a business operation. Because its home is an office environment administrative management is often mistaken as an entity quite separate from marketing manufacturing and finance. Because administration is so often viewed as a necessary evil employees who work in administration occasionally have a dim view of their role in the organisation. 282 pp.

Dalit human rights and humanitarian law once clearly distinguishable segments of international law are increasingly being viewed in an integrated and holistic manner where the individual has a continuum of protection under human rights law as well as that provided under humanitarian law as warranted by the specific circumstances. There is a broad space for forging effective linkages between humanitarian assistance and human rights programmes. The separate mandates and different methods of work can produce a remarkable added value if perceived as complementary and mutually supportive and if we maintain the focus of all we do to increase the extent of protection for the victims. India and the country of origin of the refugees. In the process refugees have become victims of gross human rights violations. A cursory scrutiny of the conditions of refugees makes it crystal clear. It is hoped that this book will fulfill the demands of a wider section of press persons of society. The editors are painfully aware of the shortcomings and shall welcome any criticism and suggestions from the readers for improvement in further editions. 360 pp.

Organising is one of the oldest human activities. It is a phenomenon that will continue to be important to people. This is based on the assumption that organisation influence human behaviour and individuals influence an organisation's behaviour. Organisation development also assumes that both individual behaviour and organisational behaviour can be modified and done so with favourable results. Organisation developments deals with organisation aspects of the behavioural sciences and may be known as or associated with human resource development organisation behaviour psychology and renewal. The definition of an organisation as used in this book is two or more persons interacting within some mutually recognised power relationship for some common purpose. This definition is intentionally broad in order to include all sizes and types of organisation formal as informal of either a temporary or more permanent nature. 310 pp.

If social change is defined as the systematic study of vanations in social life it does not seem to differ from sociology in general insofar as it is defined as the study of the unfolding of man's social arrangements through time it appears to be indistinguishable from social history. Social change may be defined as the process in which is discernible significant alteration in the structure and functioning of a particular system. The most important aspect of technology is that a man thinks rationally and objectively about things and events. This is one of the tragedies of the modern world situation. The poor countries of the world are realizing that they must industrialize but they must industrialize but they have hardly any resources to invest on research and development. Besides the import of foreign capital was not voluntary but was forced upon India as a consequence of foreign rule. High taxation and large material drains from India both being the direct results of British rule left little money in the pockets of the people and carried away the potential capital of the country. 292 pp.
