Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Beautifully produced oversized Jerusalem art volume devoted to the celebrated Holy Land lithographs of Scottish artist David Roberts (1796-1864). This edition reproduces twenty-five Roberts lithographs of Jerusalem from the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, accompanied by modern comparison photographs, historical commentary by noted Israeli historian Mordechai Naor, and excerpts from Roberts' journals. Subjects include the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Mount Zion, the Temple Mount, city walls, religious monuments, and nineteenth-century views of Jerusalem and surrounding landscapes. The volume forms part of the publisher's ambitious David Roberts - Land of Israel series and was produced in a large-format presentation intended to showcase the lithographs at near-portfolio scale. Condition: Book graded Very Good+. Binding remains square and sound; glossy burgundy boards retain strong color and sheen. Minor shelf wear and light handling marks to extremities. Interior appears exceptionally clean with bright, unfaded color reproductions and no significant defects observed. Slipcase graded Very Good, showing moderate rubbing, surface scuffing, edge wear, and an old Israeli bookseller price label on the rear panel, but remaining structurally solid and attractive. A handsome example of an increasingly uncommon oversized Israeliana art publication, especially with the original slipcase present. First edition thus, published in 1982 by Terra Sancta Arts Ltd., Jerusalem. Copyright page states '© Copyright 1982 Terra Sancta Arts Ltd.' with ISBN. No later printing statements observed. Original publisher-issued slipcase present. David Roberts (1796-1864) was one of the most important nineteenth-century British travel artists. His extensive journeys through Egypt, the Levant, and the Holy Land in 1838-1839 resulted in the monumental series The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia, among the most influential visual records of the Near East produced during the Victorian era. His lithographs remain highly collectible and are widely used in the study of Middle Eastern history, archaeology, architecture, and pilgrimage traditions. Historian Mordechai Naor (b. 1934) is among Israel's foremost scholars of Jerusalem and the history of the Land of Israel. Author of more than 130 books and numerous studies on Israeli history, Zionism, and urban development, Naor is especially known for making historical scholarship accessible to general readers through richly illustrated works. His commentary in this volume places David Roberts' nineteenth-century Jerusalem views within their historical, architectural, and cultural context, making the work both an art book and a valuable historical reference. David Roberts (illustratore). …
