Juni 1947 in Berlin) ist ein deutscher Maler, Zeichner und Bildhauer in Berlin. 1967 absolvierte Christoph Wetzel eine Steinmetzlehre in Berlin und schloss ein Abendstudium für Bildhauerei an der Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee bei Gerhard Thieme ab. Von 1967 bis 1973 studierte er an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden bei Gerhard Kettner und Fritz Eisel und erwarb ein Diplom als Wand- und Tafelmaler. Von 1973 bis 1974 absolvierte er eine Restauratorenausbildung an den Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Galerie Alte Meister. Von 1974 bis 1977 lehrte Christoph Wetzel als Dozent an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. Seit 1977 war er freischaffend in Dresden und Ringenhain tätig. Von 1982 bis 1986 lehrte er Naturstudium an der Staatlichen Porzellanmanufaktur Meißen. Von 2002 bis 2005 rekonstruierte er die Kuppelgemälde in der wiederaufgebauten Frauenkirche in Dresden. (wiki) // " .Schon vor dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil faßten die deutschen katholischen Bischöfe aufgrund einer Denkschrift des Katholischen Bibelwerks Stuttgart den Beschluß, eine neue Übersetzung der Bibel aus den Urtexten für den kirchlichen Gebrauch schaffen zu lassen, um so einen besseren Zugang zum Wort Gottes zu ermöglichen. Sie beauftragten dazu die Bischöfe J. Freundorfer, C.J. Leiprecht und E. Schick. Die österreichischen Bischöfe entsandten später Weihbischof A. Stöger. Den bischöflichen Beauftragten wurde ein Arbeitsausschuß aus Fachleuten der Exegese, Katechese, Liturgik und der deutschen Sprache zur Seite gestellt. Bei dieser Übersetzung sollten nicht nur die neuen Erkenntnisse der Bibelwissenschaft, sondern auch die Regeln der deutschen Sprache in angemessener Weise berücksichtigt werden. Bis dahin benutzte die katholische Kirche Übersetzungen, welche entweder die lateinische Übersetzung der Bibel durch den heiligen Hieronymus, die Vulgata, zugrunde legten oder doch in besonderer Weise berücksichtigten. Die Arbeit an der neuen Übersetzung begann 1962. Kurz darauf gestattete das Zweite Vatikanische Konzil den Gebrauch der Landessprachen in der Liturgie und erklärte: "Der Zugang zur Heiligen Schrift muß für alle, die an Christus glauben, weit offenstehen. Darum . bemüht sich die Kirche, daß brauchbare und genaue Übersetzungen in die verschiedenen Sprachen erarbeitet werden, mit Vorrang aus dem Urtext der heiligen Bücher" (Über die Göttliche Offenbarung, Nr. 22). Daraufhin schlössen sich die übrigen katholischen Bischöfe deutschsprachiger Gebiete in Europa dem Un-ternehmen an, das den Namen "Einheitsübersetzung" erhielt, weil es den Gebrauch einheitlicher biblischer Texte in Gottesdienst und Schule in allen Diözesen ermöglichen sollte. Die einheitliche Textfassung ließ hoffen, daß sich wichtige Aussagen der Bibel dem Ohr der Gläubigen dauerhafter einprägten. Auch würde eine solche für den Gebrauch der Bibel in der Öffentlichkeit, besonders in Presse, Funk und Fernsehen, von Nutzen sein. Da die Übersetzung vor allem in der Verkündigung Verwendung finden sollte, mußte sie sowohl das Verstehen erleichtern wie auch für das Vorlesen und teilweise auch für das Singen geeignet sein. Darum wurden von Anfang an neben Fachleuten der Bibelwissenschaft auch solche der Liturgik, Katechetik, der Kirchenmusik und der deutschen Sprache herangezogen. Besondere Sorgfalt wurde auf die sprachliche Fassung der hymnischen Texte des Alten und des Neuen Testamentes, insbesondere der Psalmen, verwendet. Von Anfang an strebten die katholischen Bischöfe die Mitarbeit der evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland an. Die evangelische Michaelsbruderschaft arbeitete von Anfang an durch Beauftragte an der Übersetzung mit.
