Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Music from the punk era transformed the world of music. If you could play three chords, you could make records. You didn't even need a record label. You could start your own. The same thing happened in graphic design. All you needed were a few sheets of Letraset and access to a photocopier, and you could make your own record covers. And lots of people did just that. Action Time Vision: Punk & Post-Punk 7" Record Sleeves is a celebration of DIY graphics from the punk and post-punk eras. You might call it outsider graphic design. With a few exceptions, trained designers rarely did 7" singles covers for this notoriously shouty and aggressive music. Apart from a few covers done by Barney Bubbles and Peter Saville, most punk and post-punk covers were designed by band members, label owners or friends. Few of the sleeves showcased here are beautiful in the normal sense of the word. But they all have an urgency and an exhilarating disregard for design conventions that makes them exceptional. They are all clarion calls for independence and freedom from pop industry norms. The work in this book is culled from the record collections of designer (and Unit Editions co-founder) Tony Brook, and leading punk scholar Russ Bestley. As one of the world's leading authorities on punk and post-punk music, Russ has contributed an insightful essay to the book. The book also features interviews with designer Malcolm Garrett, Mute founder Daniel Miller and Sniffin' Glue editor and musician Mark Perry. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.

NEW in publisher's shrink wrap. Lots of images! Has a small scratch in the front of the hardcover and the shadow of a small stain on the back cover. Pages very clean, no markings or underlining. ships from Hawaii with Priority Mail within US, not slow Media Mail. Written by the Moscow Design Museum's Alexandra Sankova and Olga Druzhinina, this book tells the previously untold story of the VNIITE - the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Technical Aesthetics. Formed in Soviet Russia in 1962, by the design visionary Yuri Soloviev, this vast network contained Moscow's most progressive designers. The 'Vniitians', as they were called, designed for the future and developed new theories and approaches to design in the USSR. But more than ï fty years later, the organization is all but forgotten. It's hard to fathom how such an institution, dedicated to the promotion of utopian design, in theory and in practice, and the improvement of design standards within the Soviet Union, could have faded so far from view. After the disintegration of the USSR, the VNIITE and its library of images and prototypes were presumed lost. Until now, that is. Thanks to the efforts of the Moscow Design Museum - and the discovery of the personal archives of some of the VNIITE designers - the story of this remarkable organisation is being pieced back together. Alongside images of sketches, models and prototypes, the book also includes a selection of covers of one of the USSR's hidden gems of graphic design - the VNIITE's monthly journal, Technical Aesthetics. Showcased together for the first time, these covers chart Soviet graphic trends from the 1960s to the early 1990s. In the USSR there was a unique design system headed by the All-Union Research Institute of Technical Aesthetics (VNIITE). In the early 1960s Soviet leadership started to pay attention to design development. In 1962 VNIITE was founded, headed by Yuri Soloviev. The Institute was engaged in developing and implementing design practices, setting standards for product designs, conducting scientific research, and establishing international professional relations.

The Original Edition by graphic design publisher Unit Editions. -- In this book you will find the covers of design magazines, journals and periodicals of all kinds. They cover many topics - graphic design, typography, architecture, interiors, print, theory and history. But above all, they are brilliant specimens of innovative visual design. There's no better place to view the stylistic rollercoaster of graphic design than the covers of design magazines - it's a fast-track education in the history of design and typography. As Steven Heller notes: "As we head deeper into the age of hand-held devices, covers will become obsolete. So, it is for this reason that preserving and archiving these documents of international design, one cover at a time, is beyond useful." The Designers The covers found in Impact 2.0 are designed and art directed by a galaxy of international designers, including: 8vo, APFEL, Neville Brody, Seymour Chwast, The Designers Republic, Simon Esterson, Experimental Jetset, Armin Hofmann, Max Kisman, Zuzana Licko, Domenic Lippa, Herb Lubalin, Karel Martens, Na Kim, Non-Format, Rudy VanderLans, Wolfgang Weingart, Matt Willey and many, many others. Another gorgeous title from Unit Editions, Action Time Vision is a collection of DIY graphics from the punk and post-punk eras. Brook and Shaughnessy are masters at digging through graphic design archives to pull out some of the most inspired, often underrepresented work from previous decades, and they don't disappoint here. Fast Co Design Rather than referencing the Sex Pistols or The Clash, Action Time Vision credits the designs of Wire, Bauhaus and Penetration sleeves, the ones with a 'disquieting look about them.' This curation of sleeves allows a representation of the extensive language of punk, while cleverly concentrating on its graphic design influence.
