November 2006 im Rahmen der Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsreihe Stadt/Raum im Museum am Ostwall = Urban space. - Stadträume - Orte - Architektur. Gerber Architekten lautet der Titel einer Ausstellung, die im Herbst 2006 zunächst im Dortmunder Museum am Ostwall gezeigt wird. Der gleichnamige Ausstellungskatalog gibt einen Überblick über 40 Jahre gebaute und nicht gebaute Architektur von Professor Eckhard Gerber. Entstanden ist eine Werkmonographie, die anhand von rund 70 Projekten angefangen beim eigenen Ferienhaus am Karerpass aus dem Jahre 1978 über die Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek in Göttingen, den Konzertsaal der Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig bis hin zum 2005 fertig gestellten RWE Tower in Dortmund sowie einem Entwurf für eine Messeanlage in Ho Chi Minh/Saigon einerseits die Entwicklung und andererseits die Kontinuität in der Arbeit von Gerber Architekten veranschaulicht. Die Projekte werden übersichtlich mit einer Vielzahl von Plänen, Fotos und Perspektiven auf einer bis zu acht Seiten dargestellt. Einleitend beleuchten vier Aufsätze von renommierten Architekturkritikern charakteristische Merkmale, die sich in allen Entwürfen und Bauten von Eckhard Gerber wiederfinden. Neben Funktionalität und Orientierung sind dies vor allem Orte der Kommunikation und des Austauschs sowie der unmittelbare Bezug zu Stadt- und Landschaftsraum. Abschließend informiert eine Auflistung über alle in den Jahren 1966 bis 2006 entstandenen Entwürfe des Büros, dessen Aufträge fast ausschließlich aus Wettbewerbsgewinnen resultieren. Waren dies zunächst vor allem Wettbewerbe in Deutschland, liegt seit dem Gewinn des internationalen Wettbewerbs für die King Fahad Nationalbibliothek in Riad im Jahre 2002 ein Schwerpunkt der Tätigkeit von Gerber Architekten bei Projekten im arabischen Raum.
