Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. ralph steadman (illustratore). 1st Edition. 4to. 396pp. Bound in black cloth. With unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with photographs and some line drawings reproduced. Dust wrapper a little worn, else very good. Size 24 x 16cm (9.5 x 6.5 inches, 1.5 inches thick) In spring 1970, the artist Ralph Steadman went to America in search of work and found more than he bargained for. He met an ex-Hell's Angel, called Hunter S. Thompson who had just shaved his head. Their working relationship resulted in Gonzo and a friendship that lasted for more than thirty years. THE JOKE'S OVER tells the story of a remarkable collaboration that documented the turbulent years of the Civil Rights movements, the Nixon Years, campaign trails, Watergate and many of the great events that shaped the twentieth century. It is also the story of a friendship and the unique understanding (and betrayals) that existed between them. Few people knew Hunter as well as Ralph Steadman did. In this wonderful memoir, elegaic, bizarre and hilarious, Steadman tells for the first time his story, in words and pictures, of Ralph and Hunter.

Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: None Issued. Arthur Rackham (illustratore). Fine Original Vintage Offset Color Print. Originally Tipped-In as plate 8. Matted ready for framing. 7 inches tall by 4.875 inches wide Matte is 12 inches by 10 inches. Background Information: Arthur Rackham is widely regarded as one of the leading illustrators from the 'Golden Age' of British book illustration which encompassed the years from 1900 until the start of the First World War. During that period, there was a strong market for high quality illustrated books that typically were given as Christmas gifts. Arthur Rackham's works have remained very popular since his death, both in North America and Britain. His original drawings and paintings are keenly sought at the major international art auction houses. Rackham invented his own unique technique which resembled photographic reproduction; he would first sketch an outline of his drawing, then lightly block in shapes and details. Afterwards he would add lines in pen and India ink, removing the pencil traces after it had dried. With color pictures, he would then apply multiple washes of color until translucent tints were created. He would also go on to expand the use of silhouette cuts in illustration work, particularly in the period after the First World War, as exemplified by his Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Typically, Rackham contributed both color and monotone illustrations towards the works incorporating his images - and in the case of Hawthorne's Wonder Book, he also provided a number of part-colored block images similar in style to Meiji era Japanese woodblocks. Rackham's work is often described as a fusion of a northern European 'Nordic' style strongly influenced by the Japanese woodblock tradition of the 19th century. And Check out our other items!
