First edition hardcover in green paper covered boards lightly sunned at head and foot of book, Spine ends and tips fairly sharp. 256 pp text is crisp, unmarked, and wonderfully illustrated with sketches by Biro. Unclipped dj is complete, shows a tad of sunning on backstrip and has a full poem by Mary W. Scott entitled Sunday Train on the rear panel of the dj. Frt dj flap states: This book is a 'must' for all country people, and for the thousands who live in cities but still turn to the out-of-doors for recreation. Contents are arranged into twelve chapters representing the 12 months of the year. The range is as wide as British life itself. The aim being both a mirror and a reminder, reflecting the goings-on both great and small that make life in our villages always worth talking about. Whether it be the tale of the gentleman who found a fox at his heel instead of a dog, the lady who decided to move her manor house into the next county, the judge who wrecked the barristers' life, or the canon who finally got his goose.
