Gould (1890-1948) was a polymath and horologist who is remembered for his intimate knowledge and understanding of the complex timekeepers developed by John Harrison in the mid-1700's. Harrison's final version was accurate enough at sea to win him the Long…itude Prize established by the Board of Longitude in England back in 1714. Harrison's chronometer made it possible to finally determine a ship's longitude at sea - a major step forward in navigation. Later, Harrison's horological relics fell into disrepair at the Greenwich Observatory museum; it was Gould who studied them, mastered their operation and pecululiarities, and then proceeded to masterfully restore them to working order. A great book on a most unusual and talented individual. This book and dj are like-new.
