Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt. - The primary objective of research in psychopathology is the discovery of new and verifiable data about maladaptive behavior. No less significant is its role in disproving erroneous past findings or refining and elaborating already established relationships. The ease with which so many promising theoretical ideas in psychopathology have been proved wrong is most disheartening. Even more distressing is the frequency with which trivial or false findings have been gathered by unimaginative or naive experimenters. All too many investigators fail to clarify their concepts and research hypotheses, collecting reams of data in futile hope that significant results will emerge spontaneously. Others select measures that are so imprecise as to detect only the grossest of differences among patients. Often, appropriate statistical designs and controls have been overlooked. Although fruitful research depends on the ingenuity of the investigator, his intuition must eventually be tested by rigors of proper scientific methodologies. It is our aim to bring together the substance of psychopathology with the rules of research so that these past errors need not be repeated. ISBN 047160626x Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
