His friends recklessly destroyed his Memoirs without having read them but, oddly enough, they hoarded papers which must have seemed at the time quite insignificant. His publishers, his several bankers, his executors and the Italian secretary Lega Zambelli, whom he employed for the last five years of his life, all transmitted to their descendants quantities of documents relating to his financial affairs p bills, receipts, memoranda. Gathered together, these form an hitherto unpublished archive which sheds so intimate a light on the poet's habits from adolescence until death, that it is probably without parallel in yhe annals of famous men. The author follows a new approach to the life story of Byron by assessing the many documents passed down by his publisher, several bankers, executors and his secretary for the last five yea…rs of his life ; many of these papers consisted of financial documents such as bills, receipts and memos through which she reconstructs a picture of his life and affairs. Letters also help form her writings, many unpublished before. Dustwrapper spine and adjacent rear margin very slightly sunned ; two small edge splits to rear top edge. Priceclipped. Owners name and date to half title. Text block a little spotted but contents clean and bright. At least VG in wrapper. Heavy book weighing c 1250g when packed, and thus extra postage ( at cost ) will be requested to cover shortfall from default postage quotation for 1000g for overseas orders and those wanted by 1st class post in the UK.( 2nd class UK not affected ).
