From the appearance each year of books from the studios and workshops of professional and non- professional book workers, the continuation of interest in this form of fine hand craftsmanship and artistry remains today self-evident. The Directory of American Book Workers (DABW) is intended as a catalyst to the perpetuation of these arts and crafts by providing an aid to communications among book workers, librarians, booksellers, collectors, scholars and all others interested in fine hand book-making. Composed of ten separate cross-referenced sections followed by an Index of Personal and Business Names, the DABW contains, within a Directory section, eight field sections and a Geographic section, information on bookbinders, calligraphers, book illustrators, marblers, paper- makers, printers, typographers, conservators and restorers. This unique reference work provides a single source for information on 1248 book workers active in various fields of the book arts.
