Kershbaum demonstrated for the first time the presence of lar…ge ring lactones in exaltolide and ambrettolide. Many of the macrolides shows antibiotic nature and they play a therapeutically important role in pathology. They are regarded as among the safest of antibiotics and they have successfully been used to treat infections caused by grampositive organisms and certain gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria. The interesting biological properties of medium-sized ring systems tend to attract the scientists from worldwide toward the synthesis of macrolides. In this book we explained the stereoselective total synthesis of (-) - Cephalosporolide D, Verbalactone and (-) - Pyrenophorol from commercially available starting materials (S)-propylene epoxide, D-mannitol and (S)-propylene epoxide. The key steps involved in theses syntheses are Grignard reaction, Noyori asymmetric reduction, Yamaguchi macrolactonization, Barbier allylation, Swern oxidation, Wittig reaction and Mitsunobu cyclization etc. 132 pp. Englisch.
